So IMO everything gets dusty Ilike things that tell me when like white cabinets or really dark floors . As for fading I think inside probably not an issue on a south facing exterior door could be an issue

@Patricia Colwell Consulting and @elcieg - Thanks for your input! Okay, sounds like quality is key. Would you be able to recommend good hardware brands? Or perhaps help me ballpark what price range I should be looking at for, say, an interior door lever?

With black knobs or levers, the finish does wear off with use (hands are the worst!) Emtek is one of the worst I’ve seen, but we’ve also seen it on high end levers, especially with sweaty hands—the good hardware doesn’t get installed until after the tradesmen leave the job. If you choose a black finish just for the escutcheons, it might be ok to get something like Emtek, but if you’re going all black, consider something higher up the quality scale. Door hardware is shockingly expensive these days. Good luck!

I prefer Oil Rubbed Bronze where any patina is part of the look. Having some variation makes it look richer than a plain matte black. JMHO.

Not sure about your budget or style but there is wrought iron hardware never going to have that rub off.

@Mary Iverson - I'm going for a more modern look, so I hesitate to use anything aged/patina.

@Patricia Colwell Consulting - I am trying to find door hardware that's made of solid iron, but I am having trouble finding any. Even the expensive ones I am looking at seem to be made of zinc. Would you be able to send over a link? That's a great thought.
