That is absolutely ridiculous what your contractor is saying. No self respecting renovator would ever fail to pull all fixtures to properly tile underneath them. Did he tile around your toilet too on the bathroom floor?? This is complete amateur hour stuff.

I hope he didn't also redo your shower in the room because if he's that lazy regarding the light fixtures, I'd hate to see how he waterproofed the shower.
