Bathroom Remodel Mirror Dilemma

I am remodeling this bathroom.

I have already removed the vanity cupboards, painted the cabinets black and changed the faucets to new black versions. All the gold is turning to black too.

There is also a cabinet above the toilet which you cannot see in the picture which was also removed.

Things are coming along. However, The mirrors look strange - they are of different heights and seem like a botched job. I know they could be great but there is also a budget here so a simple fix is best. What would you suggest for fixing that?

I was thinking about new mirrors with different shapes. I was going to replace the same light fixtures with black versions.

I am just stuck on the mirrors and space for the vanity cupboards.

It looks like the light fixtures were installed at different heights (unless it just looks this way because of the perspective of the picture), so if you don't change that it's not going to make a lot of difference if you change the size/height of the mirrors. Can you move one of the junction boxes so they're both at the same height? A glass shop can cut the larger mirror down, or if you want new ones, cut new ones. Then you can frame them with off the shelf molding from a big box store.

The bare bulbs in the light bar fixture is very 1980's, so don't replace it with something identical but in a different color. There are plenty of low cost options for light fixtures so you should be able to get something different. Changing the brass on the shower will make a big difference in the appearance of the room.

Ok, thanks for all the input. I agree framing the mirrors is the way to go. I am unsure if we can/should use the existing mirrors and simply reposition and frame them or buy new ones.

I am also wondering if we should add more mirrors and potential vanities or artwork? I took another photo so you can see the whole wall. I am puzzles as to how this wall should be fleshed out.

As for light fixtures, i am open to options. My initial idea was to paint the original fixtures and used smart/colored bulbs to make it fun. But i am open to new designs and suggestions.

just frame them out and paint them to match your vanity. it's simple and cheap to do.

The other option is to remove them and replace them w/matching mirrors. Or just get beveled, frameless mirrors.

As for the lights, please don't paint them. just replace. Those current ones are a cheapo ($30 at home depot) dated lights that do nothing to enhance your relection.

You can find cheap lights that look better.

You can't replace that countertop? Have you shopped around for remnants? you could prob pick up a pice of granite of quartz for less than $75. another 50-100 to have it cut to fit. cheap sink ($50) undermount.

what kind of budget can you work with?

I hope you're doing some type of hardware?

Check out AliExpress. you can find some really nice hardware that's much cheaper then you can find here. I've ordered numerous things from them.

do some shelves over the toilet. buy a wood board, cut it, finish it, and hang it. cheap.(like, $25)

    then style like this

    or do some art

cheap lights and cheap wood frame. both of these can cost less than $100. buy some thin wood molding. cut to size. stain, clear coat. you can glue it on the mirror or you can do a miter frame around it. look online "how to DIY mirror frame".

you could search and see if you can find 2 matching mirrors. check flea markets/craigslist, offer up, etc.

    check out this one. LesleaFerguson

cheap butcher block countertop. you could cut this yourself and save money. use the leftover elsewhere. (shelving or a desk top) Home Depot has these boards for less than $200

I haven't set a proper budget for this, but I don't mind putting some money into it. My goal was to make simple changes so this is ready to be a guest room in a few weeks. I have a few friends that are helping me out every Monday until I complete, one is handier with hardware.

I was thinking to do this in stages. Stage 1 would be the quicker and easier fixes and then stage 2 would be more involved work.

I am happy to buy light fixtures. I think we'll have a better idea once the mirrors are ready.

So it seems like the simplest solution would be to frame the current mirrors and add new light fixtures.

What would you suggest to the left of the mirror and above the toilet? A medicine cabinet? Or Artwork? I"m a little lost on that.

do you need more storage? you have a large wall space area.

if you have friend helping you and you need some storage, look to do some inset wall storage. With some basic DIY skills you can do this

Above the toilet, I already posted pics of shelving and how to do it. a medicine cabinet would be too bulky. do shelves or art or both.

look at "additional bathroom storage ideas" if you need something else.
