It looks like a Eastern red cedar to me.

it is not.. technically.. a cedar ... it is a juniper.. and probably juniperous viginiana ... and somewhat free seeding tree that lines the highways and byways of my MI .. thank you birds ...

I want to try to propagate these. Any advice

I love red cedars, pretty trees, somewhat variable in form. I have no idea if you can take cuttings from a particular tree. But look for seedlings under your other trees, in flower beds, along fences, etc.
