Struggling with living room rug and tables…

Hello, moved in recently, trying to choose rugs and tables in an open plan. I lean more towards, transitional, spanish vibe, some rustic or farmhouse. I would like a rug that brings the sofa color, floors together but also brightens the area. Appreciate some rug and table ideas. ( I prefer no glass tops.) First pic is current rug which is just from storage. Then I tried a few color choices on a site. Also adding some general room views. Sorry for some distracting pieces, ie ladder, etc. Still

working through it.

I like the third rug best because it's the most colorful. But how it looks in person is the most important thing. These renderings don't capture the colors perfectly.

I agree. The third choice …. More vibrant

[Deleted because it was a verrrry long post with a lot of pictures, and I now realize not what the OP is looking for. Took forever to scroll through. Trust me, I’m doing everyone a favor.] 😆

Thanks, @Jilly, I like the other choices, I have been worried about it all looking too dark and mixing too many tones. But I love color! And I like that coffee table from Pottery Barn. I look at Pottery Barn and Arhaus for inspiration, and then check sales or similar options online. I just have several things to purchase at the moment, including dining furniture. Trying to curate spaces but keep cohesive as it is open concept. So many great ideas, thanks again!

@Jinx, I also use Google lens, that Arhaus rug is at Home Depot for less than half the price. ; )

I love blue with Carmel leather beautiful combination…light wood would brighten the room for console and coffee table.

    I ordered these pillow covers

and I really like this console though it may shift me closer to farmhouse? The color resembles my kitchen cabinetry which I love. I am also going to do something with that wall, not decided yet.

Love the pillow covers, love that style. My house has rustic, southwestern, western, Mexican pine, transitional, etc among other styles. Lots of color and textures.

Have you looked at Mexican pine for furniture ideas?

I have a natural Mexican pine armoire in my bedroom, love it.

I like the console you posted and think it would look good in there.

@Home Interiors with Ease so great to see your comment, I have read many of your suggestions and love them! I have seen all of those pieces online, and agree the blue looks very nice. Have not gone for blue in the past, tended to go with teals, rusts, creams, hints of red or brick. First time with this color sofa, and trying to work with that floor color, too. Thank you so much for your pics!

With that pillow selection I would keep the rug simple in design with large pattern so that your proportions are good overall…love the idea of light rustic pine with your more lodge cabin pillow choices with the pheasant…to keep the room lighter with your off white drapes.

@Home Interiors with Ease any suggestions for how to make that console work? Or is it awful? Your expertise is so appreciated. Or perhaps a color scheme with my pillows included? I will search for simpler patterned rugs. Thank you.

Hi Amy…Thank You so much appreciate your kind words! I like the light console and your off white drapes..gives balance to the room…would you consider lighter pillow combo..keep the pheasant but add plaid or textured with it…do you have to have rust or red? Can it be a bit lighter…a bit of rust and Carmel but not as saturated..lighter backdrop to keep the room lighter feel. I will make up another mood board…

I can use different pillows yes, those are much easier to change out. And I love plaid, especially with the holidays coming up! I also like mustard colors for a little pop.

Thank you, @Home Interiors with Ease, I am so excited to complete this room! Very inspired with your designs. Now to shop! I will need to then look at the dining room which has a black case. One day at a time, right? I will say your blue design board really pops and has me looking at blues in rug choices, which I had not been doing. Loving the other rug pics, too.

Oh wonderful you are considering blue….post dining room it will help…

The boards are gorgeous. Here is the dining area, near the living room. I do like that black case but will repurpose for glasses, etc.

That rug there is from storage, not precious about it. Thank you.

Not keeping the coffee or end table, will be on the search for those, too.

I have this awesome pic from a Scottish friend, think it could go on a wall, too. What do you all think? Not sure how large I can make it, if anyone has any ideas on what service to use for printing digital pics for wall art.

Oh that is perfect art for your room..really like your black furniture piece for dinning room…do you have a table? Now that I see the floors better and your dining area with black a neutral and black rug is perfect! Add color in pillows and art.

@Home Interiors with Ease thanks and no I am searching for a dining table and chairs. I am trying to work some of the existing pieces in, but it starts to feel hodge podge and that is why I posted for some help. Was getting overwhelmed. So you are recommending a black and neutral rug for the living room to keep with the black piece in the dining area, is that right?

  • PRO

Yes… think it would be a beautiful start…the rug…your white console for TV and I am assuming you are keeping the white drapes..great canvas to work with! Than start layering in your pillows and art…once you figure out dining room table that may be an area to add a bit of color from family room…black, Carmel, rust, could even have some navy in a rug if you are going to add one…

This was my family room in Texas…mostly neutrals with black…than during the seasons I would add loads of color for that time of year..

    Beverly totally agree!

I am sold on it, for some reason I am feeling like I can see it coming together more, and the pieces I was worried about are not an issue. The decor, artwork, pillows, etc options look better too. Thank you so much!

    Amy that’s wonderful!

Have read all the great advice you are getting. Has no one mentioned your fabulous view? Are you on a little lake or waterway? Throw open the drapes!

This CB rug combines warm and cool tones.

And I also like your 3rd rug choice, above.

Thank you, folks, love the ideas. And why is the rug visualizer so darn fun!? So here are some I like.

I especially like seeing the sofa color pop.

This may be a little too busy

Love this but tough to find in 9x12, at reasonable price. I looked at one I loved, was many thousands.

    inspiration photo

And I love love this rug but may find it in a runner for the front door. @Home Interiors with Ease this was on your board. It is a beauty. My husband also likes the tan, black, cream geometric one on the board.

Any other coffee table suggestions, we are changing this one, and want a larger square size.

You shouldn't require a rug larger than 8x10 for this sitting configuration.

Amy..just make sure the rugs you are looking at are not any type of shag..they really mat down fast…the first one you posted is a shag my daughter and her husband had it in their condo..did not wear well and matted down quickly…this is the new one they got it is wonderful and 100% polyester…I will get the name from her..

For coffee table what about a large round?

Hi @BeverlyFLADeziner I thought the same initially but we have the sofas set back a bit as they recline, and we want enough rug to place under sofas and not have the end table look awkward. This still leaves us plenty of space between the tv console and the rug. I will definitely check measurements again and do appreciate your advice.

@Home Interiors with Ease I actually preferred a round, but we kept seeing some square styles that looked nice. You have shifted my options already, happy for you to throw some more at me, ha!

Ah I had something like that too in my album, @Home Interiors with Ease I like the black one too

Hi folks, hope all is well as you prepare for the holidays. We are going to be home and are so grateful for that. Quick update, we added a new tv console and rug. I am searching for coffee table, end table, dining table and chairs. We like the Pottery barn Banks table, but not sure if it would work. We also prefer fabric dining chairs, saw some in a tweed brown color that we liked, figuring cream or beige chairs might be too formal looking. Still working on decor, like wall art, etc. As always, appreciate any ideas. Have a wonderful Christmas, Hannukah or any holiday time you enjoy and cherish. I love all of them!

Won’t keep dining rug or darker console, that will move.
