white railing or stained railing for stairs?
Comments (29)Guess I am too late (they turned out great) In the future I would go black metal or use something in the room to accent with if your going to do metal. If you have the budget I would do a metal modern railing with a wood top that will match your floors. Either option works great!...See MoreReplacing post, railing, and pickets after new floor install.
Comments (0)We removed the track, newel, and pickets in our dining room in order to remove the old hardwood floor it was mounted on. After the new hardwood is installed, the new railing can be mounted. Can I use the old post etc?It was toenailed in and has 5 four inch screws inbedded. The track is split, the pickets are good. It is 8ft. Long. It guards the open basement stairs. The post is 4 by 4 by 42....See MoreUnable to decide on colour of hand rails. Match deck rails or not?
Comments (24)Thanks Rusty for your comments: I think the railing is the least amount of concern here. The reason the railings are the topic of the thread, is the railings are one of the few things on the outside we still need to do. We are anxious to get the railings ordered so we can use the front door and deck. There is no need to paint the railings as they have not yet been ordered We want a factor powder coat paint finish so we need to choose one the factory finish colours. Stain the concrete to match Are you refering to the natural stone steps leading to the front door? Those are staying the way they are as they are not concrete that can be stained. I have posted a close up of the steps below. As per too many colours on the house, I do agree. We did our best to make the exterior house colour decisions, but we may have made some less good decisions. As per the garage door being builder grade, that is not true. It is a high end Garaga door. The mock-up to show it in a grey colour may be making it looking more builder grade/uniform in colour than it is. It is also brand new, and expensive so the garage door will not be changing anytime soon. We live in Canada and the garage door is north facing, so it is an insulated, fiberglass garage door. I will post an image of the door without the grey mock up colour on it so you can see the garage door a bit closer up. I too worry about curb appeal on this house. We have done our best so far and have up graded many elements. We did work with an architect and an interior designer, but I do feel it is not perfect. stone steps I don't have a close up of the garage door. Here is one with one of my DS in front. It shows the texture of the door with the panels. It is in the original factory colour of greige in this photo (as it is presently today). Here is the house without any mock-ups so you can see what is done, and what is still to do. You willl note that the garage door is not a match with the siding which is why we plan to paint the garage door a different colours. A series of mock-ups and a long thread on garage door colours led us to believe grey with a bit of taupe trim was the most pleasing combo for the garage door....See MoreCable rails or PVC rails??
Comments (14)I just installed cable railing on the decks and screened porch at my house. I have received major compliments about the new look. I've also been thrilled with the way the view is so unobstructed. I had traditional pickets before and the railings have completely updated the house. It was more expensive but I was having to change the railing whether I wanted to or not due to some rotting and an unsafe/not to code height. I couldn't be happier. Here are some (very non-professional photos) that might help you visualize it. Please excuse the paint color. That is on my list of "to-do's" but I can't decide on a color....See Morelisedv
