I need a DINING ROOM Rug 9 x 12

I started this open concept room by knocking down the adjoining wall to this boxed out dining room

Arched it so sitting in the adjoining room you can see into the living room.

But with this being done NOW I have opened up all the colors and scared to create an

imbalance of too much of one color as you can see everything all at once.

I used CRUSHED ICE SW for the whole house so it wouldnt be dark

Villa with no windows on right side of the house in the main area

Exposing alot of aqua and open to the dining room and the kitchen and living room.

I want a rug that will not overdue the aqua and was wondering because

the artwork is Uttermost modern if I could just do a soft textured smaller pattern?

Or do I need a larger pattern? Warm? Cool? Floors make grey look dirty

And should I paint behind the painting?? I do not want the room to look like a box.

Here are the adjoining in your face rooms & colors.

The first thing I noticed is the light fixture, but hey thats me. It hasnt been staggered enough to give the effect. I think they all need to lay even or you need to stagger them more.

As to the rug, the chairs have an interesting pattern to them, and seemingly a tone that is no where else, maybe it is in the rug in the sitting room? maybe you play off of that? I'm just giving you a totally differnt take on things.

RL Relocation Thank you for showing me so I can see.

I kind of like the diagonal one. . I was thinking the same thing. Even sisal rug which is hardy but modern. Do you have the links to buy these? Any suggestions on accent color for that Uttermost painting on the wall. I do not want to paint the whole wall. I also was thinking of a color to go in the girls room (aqua) room on that wall with mirror Also I am aquaed out!!! right:)

The lights were here when I moved in. I think maybe I will replace one day but for now I will work with them. It was a coastal model home and I only kept lights and some uttermost paintings. I did manage to get rid of box walk in box walk out dining room and cut open arch to the adjoining space. Boy did that help!

I am LOVING the LOW KEY SOFTER LOOK on (2nd rug choices.

Please let me know where to buy (Links)

Amazing and it is easy to look at everything all at once which is what this open concept does to a space. Boy if you over do it can create such an imbalance. Juggle and a struggle.

Thank you for advice on lights with the staggering . Now I understood. To adjust heights. Ooh scary for me to play with that but I will take this into consideration to They came that way too and I was told were expensive

You've really done a great job. If you select a rug, I might suggest something that matches the soft color of your barstools. Nothing to busy because there is a lot going on in the room.

Not sure a rug is required, but the table and chairs IMO should have been turned parallel to the mirrored wall. Your room seems to have more space that way than the other.

Those lights have a tension spring at the top, if you push up on the metal ring which holds the cable, you should be able to push some wire back up into the canopy without having to cut or redo anything. all the rugs are from rugs direct.

I totally told my husband to try it the other way but just it lands so close to that painting. I tryed taking one leaf out it looks weird but 2 leafs out makes it smaller but I can try then the lights are wrong way and I do not know if I can spin that around but I am open to advice always to make it better.

Thank you for explaining. Do you think I should go completely plain on rug? I liked some ot the softer ones you sent.

    Sawyer - SAW-04 Area Rug

by Loloi II Rugs 9x 12 I love this style . Is this too busy?

This is so hard. Its proberly too busy because of the dining room chairs & uttermost abstract painting.

    From the photos,

it looks like there would be enough room. Too bad.

Doesn'thave to be a plain rug but there is pattern on the back of your chairs and the rug in the living room besides the pattern of the tile, so IMO the design for the rug should be minimal.

I took a close up for you of the bar chairs. They do relate to the back of my design on dining room chair

CLOSE UP OF UTTERMOST DINING ROOM PAINTING

The dining set is from american signature furniture and it is actually very pretty and modern pattern. But messing me up now for rugs. I also am so afraid to do any more aqua so the one you is that powder blue??? When I went to look at that it looked purple and I couldnt tell if it would be off on color . No reviews to see

Do you live anywhere near a HomeGoods? They have 9 x 12 rugs but also many smaller sizes as well. This allows you to easily take one home and give it a try before committing to a hard to return one. They have had many Loloi ones recently.

I like the plainer ones in your room FWIW like the outside ones that @RL Relocation LLC posted. I don't think you need to accent behind the painting either. It is striking without it.

Yes, all your items relate in terms of color and design.

    User thanked BeverlyFLADeziner

Beverly if I order the one you showed you think it will look like a soft blue powder and be easy on the eye. I am thinking of ordering it but hope it is not purple

Yes I think I better just consider plain. Thank you for reminding me not everything has to be design/texture. I have to pick something and let the eyes look around and rest. I agree. So now I decide to do a PLAIN RUG. 9 x 12 OPTION And colors best for it is right next to that AQUA leather couch set and navy Calvin klein washed navy rug. And it is soft but I might change that painting to shake it up alittle in there

Remember this room is right next to the dining room open up and you can see the rug. What the designers do not understand my Villa is a side entry. I hate side entry so you literally walk in and the dining room looks across (horizontal from entry ) but once in the room it is lenght wise. Its wierd layout. But thank you thank you I am being helped so much thank you

Just an idea to save you aggravation - buy the smallest size of any rug you’re considering. If you need to return it, you won’t be struggling to get a 9x12 back into the a small plastic cover it comes with. You can feel free to order two, if you find them on the same site.

If there are rug stores in your neighborhood, they always let you “try” a rug before paying for it. And oftentimes they will do both delivery and returns.

Yes I do . I am embarrassed because I check them almost daily. I love the loloi rugs and many of the rugs have busy patterns. I love them but I need 9 x 12 not (8.6x 11.6) as some are. I love the pricing too. under 500.00 . and I can try and return. But I only did it once because I am so afraid to get something too busy. wrong color

Trying to keep up with all your many posts and responses is overwhelming.

Would the living room rug fit under the dining table? I think it is too pale for the living area,

    Your dining table doesn't look oversized, a 8 x 10 might work.

For the living area, it is a great spot to layer rugs. All that cold tile could use more warmth.

Sorry the rug I proposed does not come in 9 x 12

    User thanked BeverlyFLADeziner

My first reaction was to look for an area rug in a watercolor pattern like your artwork and to pick up the less-aqua blues in the painting. Maybe find something in a paler version of your one bright blue chair. If you are all aquaed-out, I would head in the direction of the cobalt blue chair. Repeat that color in small doses in a stronger version than your extremely pale aqua so that it doesn't look like a mistake.

    I'd go for texture.

The house was staged to sell. Over the long term? Don't hem yourself in for art that happened to be in place when you bought the house. ...........: ) That happens to acknowledge a backsplash.

A million or more can do that ( down below)

At some point you can make anything "yours" , and yours alone. Uttermost art isn't nailed to a wall forever. You can even broaden the palette

Thank you so much for your efforts and help. I so appreciate you taking the time to look for examples. I agree. With covid it has been grab what you can and I have literally piece mealed my choices sometimes months apart. By the time the 5 month comes and you get to choice your are thinking . Could I have done something different. Slowly I am trying to love my space and if it means change out then it does down the road. I agree. I literally had the same thoght to do sisal texture and because I added warmth to my stools and kitchen wooden accents . The color will be important because too bland wont work . So thank you for bringing up sisal rug organic and neutral but not bland. Any examples to where to buy 9 x 12 will be quick fix.

This is the model before pictures after I sold furniture Kitchen wall paper, wallpeper wainscoating on ceilings and wicker bar stools. I put these in temporary

Sometimes the “exact right thing” isn’t available when you are furiously looking. Take a deep breath, put this on your “I’m looking for this” list and carry photos of your space in your phone. Sometimes the piece you’re looking for comes to you when you least expect it.

For example: On a vacation in New Orleans (decades ago) I found two stunning small rugs on sale. Shipping was reasonable and these beauties are currently in our guest room. Was I shopping for rugs? Nope. But there they were.

Give yourself the time to find what you need now that you have some clear cut ideas.

I have waited more than a year for the right item at the right price. Your room looks perfectly fine without and area rug. Take your time.

I'd go with a modern tone-on-tone rug that picks up the blues from your adjacent kitchen. Or, possibly get a rug with blue and beige in it to complement the color of the tile floor. The dining room needs more color and a pretty blue rug would ground the space.

A trip to the upholster can eliminate the brown inset pattern on chair backs. In which case Sabrina's concept works. I'd acknowledge chair backs or skip a rug......until a change.

Perhaps it's just me, but I think the chair backs work with those rugs I suggested anyway. No need for re-upholstery.

I love the dimension and style of those chair backs. But they do give me a challenge alittle on design and style. I am actually wondering if I should do sisal textured neutral but not bland rug???? in dining room. I love the one you picked here: For bedroom? The room is coming along very well. Definitely take your time to do it right. .

Are there any rug stores in your area? Especially one that might be independently owned. Often, they have a back room of rug remnants that you can purchase and they will size it and bind it for you. There is one in my area that does binding for $2/linear foot. And you don't even have to have purchased the remnant from them. You may be able to find a sisal or textured piece that fits your need as a remnant and have it cut to size.

Is there a Habitat ReStore in your area? In my area, new carpet remnants are always being donated by stores. I got a new 15x15 textured remnant for $25 (had to wait and wait for the markdowns), had it cut and bound at a local rug store for $88. Sweet!

Coincidentally, the rug store had donated it to Habitat when they cleared out their warehouse when the building was sold. The carpet style was still in stock and was $12/sq ft .if I had bought it from them directly. I love a bargain!!!!

When you want a bargain you do have to be willing to wait for what you want and/or be flexible to know that maybe what your heart is set on is not the best thing. Stay open to possibilities.

Sisal is sold by the sq. ft at rug stores. You could have an area rug made. It might get pricey but wait for a sale or maybe find a remnant. Here's a sisal wool I splurged on at the same rug store after my bargain rug. Lots of colorways available for sisal if you go that route.

Also, delivery fees have gone crazy where I am so look for ways to save on that if you go local. The two rugs were far too large for my SUV so a friend and I rented a large van for $55 vs. the $175 delivery fee and brought it home ourselves.

The perfect item at the right price has been on my wish list for more than a year now. You do not need an area rug in your room and it looks perfectly fine without one. Let's take our time to get to know each other.

RL Relocation Thank you again. But I checked and they do not have my needed 9 x 12 size which we measured and is perfect not to interupt the walkways into the other room where we cut the opening it leaves a good 2- ft distance all around or more. Because of the threshold to the next room 9 x 12 width centered to light and table seemed best. We could go slightly if we had to but it looks better. Still no RUG YET? 9 x 12 Color ?? NO COLOR? I havent got links to rugs that are my size and would love to get the 9 x 12 links to check them out.

RL Relocation already stated that the rugs she posted were all three from Rugs Direct.

    https://www.rugs-direct.com/Store/nav/Category-Area-Rugs-StandardSize-9x12

All comments from anyone........are suggestion. A feel.....

So unless RL digs back in her history, on phone or laptop? Go to Rugs Direct, above link, put keywords in the search box, use the filters they provide.

    More important?

No welcoming home needs this much exact "matchy matchy". There is no rush, no timetable. You are not even locked into the Uttermost art. Nor it's "made to sell coordination" in a home that was indeed, staged to sell. Make it yours.

Houzz is free advice , power of suggestion, visuals, examples!! But . For those needing the "here.......this is PERFECTION.....do this!!" version of design? You pay an interior designer to suggest and guide, and that is best as one who can be IN your space/ ie local to you, and also at your beck and call : ) Or even have a rug created custom.....for you alone. To the inch.
