Any paint color ideas for refreshing old bathroom?

We have a small beach house and are doing some painting to refresh it. One of the bathrooms has a cream-yellow countertop (and shower tile) which is making it difficult for us to choose a wall color for top half of the walls (the bottom half of the walls are white beadboard, which look fine. Floor tile is sort of mottled light brown. (We have primed the top half of the walls, which is what you see in the pictures).

Any ideas? Pictures attached.

I do not think the white looks fine with the vanity and I really dislike beadboard but honestly it does not work white with the floor or the vanity. I think painting the wole space the same will be a lot better choice if redo is not in the near furture. probably not dark green which I cannot even imagine with thta floor . I think a color from the tile is the best bet and take that shutter thing off . It is always agood idea to also give us a clue as to your style if you want help. To me paint it ll one color and save to do a new bathroom the vanity is dated the colors obviuosly are not what you like so only so much to waste time and money on IMO .

I would freshen up your vanity with a nice coat of white paint. There are many tans, and browns, greens, etc, that will work in the room, but, since this is a beach house, I would choose a nice lighter beachy turquoise color. and some beachy type wall art. When I am at a beach house, I like it to look like I am at a beach house. Light and airy and beachy colors, and furnishings.

You asked about the top of the wall. I would paint it a color that draws the eyes up. The flooring and vanity are the sore spots of the bathroom. I would take the focus off the two and put it on the wall. I would go with a bold color that puts the focus someplace else if I were only painting the wall. I would pick something like BM Hale navy. OTOH Hale navy might make the bottom half of the room pop more.... BUT in reality, I would not do that at all.

The vanity and the flooring are your limiting factors. Short of replacing them, I would paint them both. Painting the floor is not much different than painting the walls. Many people here have done it with great success, including myself. It is a quick and easy fix and takes away what I think is the most limiting item in your room. The same can be said for the vanity. IMO the beadboard should be painted to blend in with the countertop or to completely contrast with it. Right now the color of the beadboard makes the countertop look more dated.

If you are willing to paint everything, you could completely transform this space for very, very little money and a little elbow grease. Colors would depend on your personal style. I would suggest looking at inspirational photos.

You want your paint color to pull the room together, but you have an existing palette that’s fighting. Pink beige floors, yellow counter, off white vanity, white molding. Replacing vanity and counter may help, but the floor is the worst offender and hard to ignore. The whites of the vanity and bead board seem a little off also. Ideally, they would be the same or more of a contrast. Floor paint is an option, though I’m not sure how it would hold up if people are tracking in sand. Painting walls, vanity and bead board a bright white, such as Chantilly White (assuming toilet is white) may work. BM Muslin may work with floor tiles, but probably not with yellow counter. A nice blue-gray-green (SW Sea Salt or BM Healing Aloe) on the upper part may be pretty, but I’d paint the vanity the same color as the bead board if you do a different color on the upper wall.

a jute or sisal rug could go a long way in calming down the bossy floor (one that covers up as much of the floor as possible, maybe even a custom size)

For me the vanity is the worst part. The floor looks newer than the vanity. If you rent this property part of the time I can see keeping the vanity, but if you are the only one using it, I would replace it. I'm not sure the beadboard is the right white to go with the floor. You need a warm white. Because of the lighting in the picture I don't know if that's what you have. Then for the walls either the same color as the beadboard or something slightly darker, but not really dark. Look at the most popular/best selling colors in your preferred brand. There are a lot of neutrals in that group - one of them will work. Since I can't be sure about the undertone of the floor I can't give you a specific recommendation. However, I had a similar travertine look porcelain in my previous house and had BM Pale Almond on the walls.

We do rent it, and have already undertaken some big changes (huge new screen porch and new bathroom, new W/D) so trying to do some DIY projects like painting. i agree the vanity is awful but we are keeping it for now. The feedback about the different whites is hugely helpful and not something we had thought about. Painting the vanity cabinet is something we could do. I will play with these paint color ideas - Lots of good ideas here, thank you!

Sounds like you only want to refresh with paint. I would paint the vanity a nice crisp white to match the bead board, the walls a rusty brown (match the darkest brown in the floor). and smow white shower curtain with a bit if rusty brown trim ( if you can find it).

i like this wall color with your glooring.

Someone above mentioned green tones in the floor ( I kind of see it). here is a dark brown/olive that might work. Go for a crisp white/dark wall contrast and just let the yellowish counter blend.

I agree no to green or the brighter blues. White will look washed out so brown is the best color. Since it's a beach house maybe a light shade of sand or almond color. It will tie the room together and not stand out like the other colors might.

I have found that Benjamin Moore Muslin is a good, light neutral bridge between a pinky element and a yellow element.

I would paint the walls the lightest taupe color from the floor. I would leave the vanity as it looks nice and a rental property.
