I'll show you mine/you show me yours - T 1/10/23

Welcome to my home week. Show me:

M - Your front door

T - Something in your home you love

W - Something in your home you're not happy with

Th - View from a kitchen window

F - View from a bedroom window

I'm including our friends from Home Deco Convo's this week as I think this is a topic they might enjoy. Of course, they're more than welcome to join us here every day at the Kitchen Table...

    Love my kitchen

One of the best things we did was to use the glass railing on our deck as the view is below us. I'd hate to be looking through pickets to try to see it.

When I saw this subject, I thought no way I could select only one (or five, per guidelines) because that is like playing favorites. But when I was dusting yesterday, I saw my paternal grandmother's doll. It is kept in her vitrine that is layered with items owned by past relatives. Items that were carefully packed and personally moved x3 by me, and always one of the first boxes to unpack. The doll is over 100yo, being that my grandmother was born 114yrs ago.

This is a tough one. I really like most things about my house, especially location.

I’m glad we put in a ’pantry’ for food and small appliance storage next to the kitchen.

Next to that is a mudroom/cloakroom with a bench, coat hooks and shelves.

My small built-ins. This is where all the cluttery memories are. There is a second built-in opposite this one, with a similar display. Nothing from Home Goods or Target. Almost everything you see has a story. The middle shelf is my ”nature museum” which changes frequently. No books here — or very few, on the bottom shelf — because we have an entire all of bookshelves elsewhere.

Is it me or is it the site? I go to click on a pic to enlarge it and get just a circle.

The photos will enlarge for me.

Oh that's weird, now it's working, but it wasn't working all morning. This site is buggy!

Annie, some will open for me, so some I just get a circle.

Our foyer floor. Our builder was a master craftsman and I don’t regret having him do this.

annie, i get a circle but then the photo pops up in 2 or 3 seconds.

this is "macaroni", my son's (who is now 48) wonder horse from when he was a toddler. my hubby made it into a carousel horse for me. 💖

my family room doesn't usually look this junky, i was rearranging things.

    Pics enlarge for me, too.

Like Allison it's impossible to pick one thing I love but sitting with my coffee just now it's a combination of the sun streaming in the windows (we will not discuss how dirty they are) and that everywhere I look is something with history and meaning to me.

Sue I love your not at all cluttery memory shelves.

    Bessie and Zephyr.

I would also say the natural light, but it's still dark and rainy here.

One thing I like about our house is that not all the old fireplaces were ripped out in the name of "modernisation".

    Gargamel, I love that!!

Although this brass headboard is no longer my style, it’s still a favorite. It was a splurge purchase for our upstate weekend home many years ago. It then came with us to our primary home.

I like the glulam beams on the 24' high ceilings.

The kiva fireplace in our family room. I designed and painted it myself. I’m proud how well it turned out. But, out of our 4 fireplaces, it’s the only one I’ve painted.

Pillows I made for the sofa.

This Hutschenreuther flower/frog figurine that belonged to my mother-in-law is a favorite.

    front door…I’m late…catching up.

Once a plain wall between family room and bedroom/den. I designed/ copied this bookcase and french door idea. Lynne…this is fun. Start one for various rooms!

    Thank you, jrb.

Lynn, in all the times I’ve looked at your beautiful kiva fireplace, I’ve never noticed the symbols painted around the bottom. Did you also paint those, and can you share their meaning?

We refurbished this ~ 1930's Hoosier several years ago. It was a real mess (@ $75) so I removed the rusty old flour strainer and installed more shelves. We hit a lot of antique shops and it's the only Hoosier that we've ever seen having the curved shoulders.

I guess this is representative of why I bought our home and makes me smile? It has many original features and had a nice warmth to it. I had to track down this toilet and sink and the legs (there was a plain white toilet before and cheap particle board vanity that was water damaged). I got lucky there was the original tile under the vanity. I need to finish decorating and puting up my hall mack accessories in here. There is still a long way to go, lots of undoing remuddling around the house, and work in the other bathrooms and kitchen (they need full renos because of the layouts).

I regret not buying more art over the years, so have started a little bit. Bought this from an Etsy artist. It reminds me of all the swimming holes we've swum in here in TX as well as afternoons swimming in NH lakes.

This quilt that was made by my great grandmother.

This mid-century carved wood piece, likely from Bali or thereabouts. I found it a few years ago in a local consignment shop and was almost too afraid to take my hands off it to go find a staffer to get it down. My sweet boyfriend handled the wiring/hanging duties.

This cabinet belonged to my great-grandmother. The contents are a mix of a few pieces inherited from family members, and a lot of things I've acquired in my travels over the years.

Took me forever to get this to post! Anyhow this probably my favorite corner of the house. I love the light here, and really enjoy changing out the things on the shelves and counter.

I honestly thought I had clicked on the what I hate about my house thread, and I was looking at the pictures trying to understand what someone would not like?!?! LOL

    Your homes are just lovely.
