What are the floors next to the kitchen? Wood, carpet, tile?

what is your leaning? pattern tile? slate look? border? if it has to be tile the border treatment is a nice way to give yourself something special and the patterned areas would butt to the island so that might be nice since you are redoing the island . just depends on what you like.....how much you want to design something vs basic/ less costly option. Vinyl squares are nice for a slate look . Get to a flooring store and note all the offerings now.

I have seen LVT that looks like slate. It was really beautiful. I agree, you need to visit a flooring store & see what they can show you. You will not find the best selection in a big box store.

@deegw The adjacent rooms are pergo laminate in crema. The problem is, the lighting in my kitchen drastically changes from the other areas and in my living room, the flooring is a nice tan /gray color and has a lot of warmth but when i layed peices out in kitchen, its loses all its color and becomes very silvery and washes out my kitchen and clashes with my counters. I wanted woodlook in my kitchen so bad but not if the color sucks. It would probably be weird to have a wood look tile or other laminate layed next to the pergo i would imagine, right lol?

Have you tried changing your bulbs in the kitchen to see if that helps to warm up the living room laminate when you view it in the kitchen?

If you're still not happy with it, I'd look for a stone-like click-lock vinyl tile, as mentioned above.

Not sure if this is your idea of modern farm house but I think it would work in your kitchen. I've mentioned in other threads that I think check floors are going to replace the patterned tile as the next thing, especially because checks are more apparent in fashion. That could be another option.
