Dove Beauty Bar scent!

I’ve been trying to use up the bar soaps that have accumulated. After a year or so of Basis, I had been missing my Dove Beauty Bar for the shower, so I picked up a bar at the store. OMG! The scent is quite overpowering! Akin to filling the bathroom with hyacinths in bloom! I can even smell it downstairs a little. Has it always been this powerful? The last time I had Dove it was ”Sensitive Skin” and I recall the scent as being delicate. But maybe after a couple of years of unscented soaps, I’m just not used to it? But really, it’s almost suffocating in the bathroom. What gives?

Are you sure you got the original? I know Dove bars now come in all kinds of scents, but the one I use is the original and the scent is quite mild (and I really dislike strong smells.)

My MIL always liked Dove, but I never liked the scent! I cannot remember it off-hand....sorry.

The package says ”Original Dove”. I think I’m going to donate the second bar from the two-box pack, but what to do with the bar I have? I love the way it feels, but even the bedroom is starting to smell like Dove.

I think I’m just going to have to look in the stores for the Sensitive Skin bar, and toss this bar. Hmm, maybe I can give it to a gardening neighbor to keep the deer at bay.

We use Dove Bar original. It is smelling the same as it has for a few decades, at least the bars we've had. Hmm. I wonder if you got an off box? That's happened here with laundry detergent--put hair on your chest kind of strong out of ordinary fragrance.

You mention using unscented soap for a while now...that can do it too. When you go unscented, the nose tends to reset to smell things at their actual level. We get used to artificial scents and go sort of numb to them until we are not exposed to them anymore.

I notice a lot of people, myself included, as they get older, can't tolerate artificial scents like they used to.

I think back to the 1970s and 1980s when everyone was drenched in heavy colognes and perfumes, along with cig smoke everywhere you went. I think a lot of us would be nauseated if we lived like that today; we have adjusted to not being around strong scents as much.

Well, sorry an old favorite might not be alright for you anymore.

I like Beekman unscented goat milk soap. $$ though. It's a nice soap that I use more often than Dove. Hope that helps.

I’ve never been able to stnd the smell of Dove soap. I also hate the smell of lilies.

Just buy the Sensitive one, it's unscented as far as I can tell. Yeah, I just looked it up, it says on the box "unscented". Do you think that maybe the bar you have now, possibly after it's used a few time, the scent would dissipate some?

I use unscented Dove which is now called Sensitive. I don't like a lot of scent in most products and always look for unscented.

I stopped in the drugstore and picked up the Dove Sensitive, and yep, it is unscented. The ”original” bar is now in the box, inside a ziplock, in the garage. Maybe it will keep the chipmunks out!

DH uses Dove bars but I don't like using bars of soap. Because of dry skin I purchased

Dove Deep Moisture Hand Wash and this will be my forever soap. It actually cleans and my hands are soft after washing. I don't think it's scented.

I really dislike most fragrances, but I love the feel of Dove. For the past few years this soap has been my favorite. It's gentle, foams up wonderfully, and has no scent. The bars are huge so they last a little longer. I find it at the nicer Kroger based stores, and Whole Foods.

My grandmother used Dove soap. This was back in the 70’s, her bathroom always smelled of the soap, so it was reasonably strong back then. My grandfather was an Irish Spring guy, who later migrated to Old Spice soap, he had his own bathroom that were filled with those scents. Anytime I

smell these scents I am taken back in time.

Ooh, I like Irish Spring, too. I’m taking the second bar of Dove and an extra Irish Spring from the linen closet to the ”veterans’ closet”.

I wonder if I am getting sensitive in my advancing years? i received one of those air-scenting sticks that you set in a bottle of oil. I had to put saran wrap over the bottle so that just the stick carried the scent, otherwise it was too strong for me.

We recently had several bars of the "unscented" Dove soap. I didn't purchase them intentionally (I don't mind the original scent), but I thought the "unscented" soap smelled awful. It's possible the bars were old - and perhaps that made the difference. But, it was so bad, that I thought the shower had developed mold/mildew or something. I was actually thrilled when I detected the scent on DH, and realized that it was only the soap! It's funny how differently our noses react to things!

I did have to stop using Tide detergent after many years because the scent just seemed to get stronger and stronger. It was beginning to make my eyes water!

Dove soap has always smelled bad. My mom wouldn't allow it in the house. I think it smells like roses and pee.

I have used Dove Unscented/sensitive for years and detect no scent. I only buy unscented soaps and laundry detergents. I hate the way scents linger in peoples clothes and follow them.

Lizbeth, you are right, the unscented/sensitive Dove has no scent other than maybe a slight chemical smell. The regular one is so strong we can't even stand it in the bathroom. Recently, when my husband was trying to replace a bar soap that was discontinued that he really liked, we had a bar of Dove in the cabinet that he decided to try and he HATED it...used it once and that was it.

Smell is subjective so I guess some people enjoy it. My neighbor washes her clothes and I can smell her strong laundry detergent all the way over in my yard, it is that strong.

The absolute worst of the scented products, IMHO, is scented trash bags. Nothing can beat overpowering fake lavender -vanilla smell mixed with eau de garbage.

I am a Dove devotee, but only unscented.

FWIW, I've forever hated scented trash bags too, but when we were clearing out stinking, sodden, decaying debris after the hurricanes, I was suddenly very grateful for them 😏

Hubby likes the scent of Dove - and his fave is Cashmere Bouquet, but I don't think that's manufactured any more...?

I do not care for any soap/wash that leaves a strong scent behind.
