What to do with an empty space between kitchen and dinning table?

We are renovating the house and we have this empty space between the kitchen and where the table goes, any thoughts on what to do with it?

Why is there an overhang on that opening? Space doesn't really show in your pictures so I'd say it is the least of your worries until renovation is completed.

Well you're not really showing us the dining room, are you? How can we advise?

You're talking about this area? That was a breakfast bar with stools??

What is this door? Is the other direction the living room?

Yes that area , i do put stools there but its still a big empty space

The door is the garage the other area is the ”sunroom” all season room

and the dinning room as the table in it in the first picture

What to do with empty space? Really need room dimensions, but here goes- Option 1 Expand kitchen…wall up the pass through, move fridge to former pass through area, add tall pantry next to fridge. Option 2 Create beverage/coffee bar…remove counter at pass through, add coffee bar under pass through, add open shelves flanking pass through. Option 3 Bigger DR…seat more people at table…get bigger table, move table and chandelier further away from the wall and into empty space. Option 4 Add peninsula…keep pass through and remove its counter, add peninsula where trash can is in photo.

This is definitely a “ show us your floor plan” dilemma…

I like open space if none of Marylut’s ideas appeal to you!

You could put a small chest against the wall next to the door for table linen storage. If you have chairs at the breakfast bar, then the rest of the space is pass through. You could move the dining room table closer to the kitchen if it doesn’t block the door and put a buffet against the wall behind it if there is enough space. Without a floor plan, it’s hard to say.

I’d try to put your table in that space instead, if there‘s room, and then make a small sitting area where the table is. It’s hard tell how much room is there though.

One thought I have is to ‘bridge’ the space with your dining table and place a credenza on that far wall.

    Jeeezzzz......'Dining' - not - 'Dinning'.

A floor plan with dimensions would definately help us give you valuable advice.

Photos distort what we can see. Sometimes you just end up with a wide hallway between space and this is ok too.

IMO no more help until you post a to scale floor plan in a comment here . Show every window , doorway where the doorways lead. Even measurement clearly marked and post in jpeg format. Ther eis no way to help without that info.

    I would do nothing.

    ‘Jeez’…not ’jeeezzzz’

I'm putting emphasis on the word project mode. There's waaaaayyyyyy too many posters who spell it wrong.

Thank you, shirlpp! That’s one of my biggest pet peeves! It’s right up there with “loose” instead of “lose.”

Maaaaaybe she’s just putting the emphasis on dining…

Without benefit of a floor plan, I think Celery’s suggestion to do nothing may be best. Separation of areas is a good thing. Space is nice.

project mode - move on before things start to get nasty! Otherwise - offer the poster some advice.

You don't need to fill the space. You do need to make the counter shelf have a reason for being there. Watching t v and snacks are appealing? Serve on the shelf and don't miss a minute of your show. As long as the stools tuck under, it will also provide a nice buffet for the dining table.

Love the sconces in this inspiration photo...just the right added touch.

As for the dining area, start thinking about a rug and chandelier. And if you do the sconces, pair it with a like chandelier.

What are you going to do with the floor? Can you match the old and continue it to the dining area?

No offense - but ironically, I already did and it was actually in regards to her dilemma, not her spelling. I guess that’s why I was trying to understand why you posted what you did... it was in poor taste.

I vote finished the renovation and get set up with what you have and then still my answer may possibly be do nothing there

Only thing to do is enjoy that open space for what it is, open empty space. Not every inch of your home needs furniture in it.

Hi, it's best to open up the kitchen and dining. Instead of three areas, try having an open concept. Also you can think about a scullery.

Coffee bar, breakfast nook, bar area, if there's a window then a little cozy coffee area to sit.

    There are so many ideas.
