Well, you did say you were impatient so those are about your best bet. Personally, I like the young cones of Picea omorika but they will age to less vibrant colors and you’d have to wait for them to be of cone bearing age.

'Pusch' is my favorite. It produces a profusion of bright red cones in early spring and at an early age. The red eventually fades to a pale tan color. But the red is pretty intense when it's there! And it's a nice, tidy, compact dwarf well suited to container culture, And because it is a dwarf, the cones are very visible.

How slow or not is Pusch. This would be year 2 for me, and I'm thinkng I want to prune it so it gets fuller . Last year I did not get the red cones, but I think it was partial due to timing of ordering/shipping/transit/planting. This year, I am see it although it is small

I can't find a Picea abies 'Pusch' locally. Any mail order sources that will mail to Ontario, Canada?

Many of the Chinese firs have brilliant blue cones.

Pinus cembra cones are plump & purple…and edible! Well, the seeds are edible.
