Leave the window alone and put in a tile backsplash that goes up to the wall cabinets on either side, and to the ceiling where the window is. Like this:

A grey glass tile. Preferably 3x12”

3x12 may be a bit large for that smaller area you have. I'd look at a 2X10, 2x8, 2.5X10, 2.5X8

You'll find they look better in those more compact areas.

Make sure the gray glass tile is a warmer gray and not a blue gray. always bring back samples.
