Help pairing a dresser with a brass crib

Hello there! I am designing a girl’s nursery and have chosen the brass crib pictured. It’s a small nursery so I need a dresser no more than 4 feet wide and it needs to be able to double as a change table so it can’t be a tallboy. I’m struggling with what type of design I should be looking for… because the brass crib is a little bit more of a statement and has a vintage vibe I don’t know if I should be going with something more clean/modern to offset it or flow with the vintage theme and find a vintage dresser. If so, what type? I’ve added some photos of some ideas I’ve had and of the crib and I’d love to see some of your ideas for pairings. Should I have a wood dresser or painted? I like neutrals and if we will accent with a colour it will be Sage green but I don’t want a Sage green dresser. We also have a cream coloured recliner going in the room.

I would look for a mahogany dresser, no mirror attached. I would look for an older mirror to hang above dresser

How do you feel about any of the dressers I posted? They are available on my local marketplace. The mirrors are removable.

traditional dresser, no mirror, brass hardware. Painted wood will chip.

The first one has a lot of charm. I might paint it off white with chalk paint. (very easy! one coat! no prep!)

I think, for safety reasons, large heavy mirrors like those shown are not good for over a changing table,

Properly painted wood wont chip, IME. Fiberboard Ikea stuff (pic2?) will.

Most importantly, look for safety guidelines for securing a dresser to the wall. Your precious little one will be toddling around and pulling themselves up in no time. Safety first!

Not sure if the two wood are tall enough to double as a changing table. DH had to add an extension table that sat a top of the dresser. No mirror at the changing table. Attached or hung. Find some fun art that will interest baby. No worries with the two wood pieces of toppling. That's a modern phenom due to all this cheap IKEA furniture people use.

BTW I love love your crib

Cribs come in brass? Who knew? It's a lovely crib.

The antique mirrored dresser is a lovely match to the crib, but I have a couple thoughts:

    - The mirror can be a great asset to a changing table. When mine were babies, my favorite place to change them was my grandmother's bathroom ... because she had a wide bathroom vanity, and the baby was entertained by the mirror.

    - Is this dresser wide enough to serve as a changing table? I ask because antique dressers can be narrow.

    - Regardless, don't spend much money on a dresser /changing table for a baby ... it's something you'll only use a couple years.

    - I lean towards something painted to match the brass crib. Any number of colors would work, but be sure to repeat the color in your curtains and/or rug. Again, don't spend too much on a baby's room.

    Beautiful crib.

Coincidentally, this was at the top of my IG feed just now:

Do a hashtag search of relevant terms, such as ’vintage changing tables’, for lots of ideas.

I think old or modern would work fine what that crib, just depends on everything else in the room, the style(s) throughout the house, what is most functional, etc.

If you can fit a small twin bed in room, please add. I never used the changing table, used a bed. More room for squirmy little ones

A dresser is a good choice when baby is very young/long term storage. I’d be looking for drawers that slide well for easy access to items.

As there is not a lot of room on the surface you’ll need nearby storage (which can be used for books/toys later on).

If possible, don’t rush into buying if not sure, especially if finish isn’t great or doesn’t meet your needs, as these vintage dressers tend to come up often. Brass handles would be a nice touch.

Some great replies here, thanks for your help! A few things to note — I am ok with painting or refinishing a dresser to some extent. No worries on the baby proofing as I will be ensuring everything is safe.

I think both an antique style dresser and a modern dresser might both go with the crib but I don’t want to accidentally make everything in the room look “old” by paring too much vintage looking furniture together. I like the wood dresser with the marbled looking wood but I’m not sure if that claw feet are too much. I also want something that looks like a quality piece and really pulls the room together. I feel like a vintage piece with clean lines and maybe a combination of paint and wood accents with brass hardware would work but I’m not really sure what I’m looking for. I scour used furniture for something that jumps out at me daily and while I don’t want to rush into anything, I’m due in 2.5 months so definitely need to figure it out soon. I guess maybe I’d like some suggestions as to what type of style of dresser I should be trying to find would be helpful…. Or if the details will be too much on some of these dressers (the pineapple finials, the claw feet etc) or if painted maybe they don’t matter really at all. I really like the colour “chateau” by Fusion Mineral Paint, with brass hardware.

I forgot to say in my post: congratulations!

It’s hard to be specific without more context. What style is your house? What else will be in the room? A picture of it would be helpful. :)

I don’t think pairing something vintage or antique with that crib would make the room look too old, as you could bring in more modern items to mix in — lamps, fabrics, rug, chair, other decor. And the crib itself is a wonderful take on a new and fresh version of an antique style.

I love mixing styles, mixing old and new. It could be a beautiful, collected look. Very cozy.

A good idea ... and transitioning to a big-kid bed will be easier.

For me, I preferred a changing table over using a bed as one. The height was perfect and everything I needed could stay there.

I never liked using beds for diaper changes while visiting people.

I also liked my baby’s room to look like a baby’s room until it was time to transition to a toddler bed, then bigger bed. I had a hard time when she outgrew her crib, was very emotional. 🥹

Of course everyone should do what works best for them, just reminiscing. :)

There isn’t any room in the nursery for a twin bed unfortunately. It’s quite a small room, 10’ x 9’ with one wall being taken up by a closet door and entry door along and a window adjacent.

You might be overthinking. When looking on marketplace just imagine the piece with lovely brass handles.
