10 Years and FINALLY Getting It Right with My Houzz Team

last year

This dilemma is a continuation of two years of design deliberation from my original dilemma’s call for help. My site was glitching so had to start anew.

Serious question- as I might be done with the major mudding. Hopefully will sand and prime tomorrow! Question: should I keep the ceiling moulding or go naked like the rest of the house? I do want to add moulding to the ceiling in the bath though because of the awkward shower tile so there is that.

I’m feeling a bit hateful after trying to get the ceiling even 🤯…and sore 😭😂 mom comes in two weeks!!! Good news is that she is feeling good enough to travel which is a miracle in itself. Bad news…her room is tore up! And there is a layer of mud dust over the whole house despite my efforts!!! So major cleaning also in play! Ms K will stay downstairs with the college kids in Mr muscles vacated room 😉 Anyway, hoping to at least get the walls painted and stuff put back in so we can play with arrangement. Hoping Apollo can get the window trim done but I’m thinking the trim won’t be done…but I’ll try! If we like the paint color - SW vaguely mauve 🤞 Personal update: Apollo quit his job so he is happy again and more available. He has started his own fractional CFO biz 🥰 bad news (besides a tight budget once again), he blew out his hamstrings (yes, both!)playing baseball like an eighteen your old and had to be carried off the field 🤦‍♀️ he is walking without assistance today so improving! His ego is still hurt…maybe now he will listen to my exercise nags 🙄😉 Ladma, any advice? 🤯

Oh Liasch, I forgot to add, that is the wood gleaming on the canopy - that picture caught my eye as well! No mirrors thank goodness 😉

DD I would just keep the moulding. Any extra work will prolong the project. You could always remove it later down the road. You certainly have enough going on to get to or close to the finish line and get things cleaned up for your mom.

Oh boy DD at least you got some help arriving now and Mom's room get done! And I'm confident in you that you will get this all done but boy are you going to be working your bones off but at least your help is coming!

Thanx Alice! Happy, so true! It will be so great to see mom 🥰 and the bonus is…she loves to cook! 👏

Having goal of Mom coming is always great motivator. Get the dee color on wall then decide on other wall color. The DE whisper gray has too much yellow I believe.

I think the two best choices right now for K’s room are accent walls SW Dark Night and or SW Iron Ore. and other walls a light tone like the SW Fleur de Sol 7666. Her artwork is very inspirational for this room and those deep turquoise colors work so well with the bathroom color.

Yay! Getting closer. Here is her artwork…it’s huge 🤦‍♀️😂it’s diamond art.

Such beautiful colors and brings in your bathroom colors and gives direction for bedroom. Gorgeous. A tremendous work of art. I would put a light over it too to enhance the sparkle! Stunning!

    Good idea Flo!

From here I rule out Agreeable Gray. And Whisper Grey. I think I like Fleur de Sol is my fav or City Loft. Here’s board to help see Everthing together.

I just found another color worth considering. It’s a Behr color (Home Depot) and it is rich and very interesting! Just depends on direction K wants.

Love that too Flo 👏 ill stick some on the wall and see how it plays with the light in there 🤞

Hi ladies and DD I’ve read the thread and I think I know what you’re going for but if I say stupid please cut me some slack regarding the ceilings I would keep them consistent. Good luck Apollo as you go for another adventure

Good afternoon Houzz Fam 🥰 Hi Seajay!! 💕 So happy to have your talent on board as we progress to Ms K’s room! 👏👏👏 Flo’s plan is to go dark on the ceiling to absorb the wood canopy on the bed and take the dark down the view wall to frame the view. I’ll do that and then move the bed around for us to firm up placement. I’m really wanting it on the east wall looking out to the view and breeze. But, if we don’t like it then I’ll cave and put it in front of the window as I really like the art desk wall Flo sketched on the north/ driveway wall. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Had to take a break to weed after a nice rainfall! Hopefully I’ll get primed today (I know I keep saying that!) my arms are going to fall off!

For the ceiling dark paint, can we do shiny? The bed is shiny 😁 or matte like the rest of the house to stay consistent?

Just remember if you do shiny paint every little crack or blemish will be exposed and exaggerated shiny would be stunning nonetheless

Perhaps stay with the same sheen throughout the space?

Good afternoon Houzz Fam 🥰 Seajay, I suppose that would be the ultimate test of my repair drywall skills….hmmm, maybe best not to test it 😂 Alice, I agree! So I actually primed and weeded yesterday 🥳 I think every muscle hurts so good day to go buy paint! 💪🏻😁🤯

SeaJay’s point is a good one…it will show every flaw. And I am not a fan of gloss anyway…what is the upside?

    Satin is best.

I agree sarin is best unless you are trying to make a statement with a color. Did don’t make extra work for yourself. You’re on a crunch timeline after all. Aaak! Mom’s coming soon.

Good afternoon Houzz Fam 🥰 ok, we have progress! Behr paint is very very thick so making another run. Thinking I might go matte because the light flow in that room is blinding! The color goes purple in the dark corners and brownish in the light. It melds well with blackberry and brinjal. I’ll take pictures when the sun is dimmer later 😘

My pleasure. So happy Miss K likes it and we can work with her to get it to that “Wow! Moment!! Yay! Calling it a night here. High tomorrow 76! Having great cool but pretty weather. My gauge is usually by this time of year we have had 4-6 days of near 90 degrees. We haven’t even come close to that. Then, by May 15th, 95 day high and 75 night temps with a few 99-100 days. I just have a feeling this is another cool year for us despite what some media people proclaim! We shall see!

I have a lot of brownish colored rooms saved on Pinterest. They all have a cozy Ralph Lauren vibe.

Love that Kjoy! So classic 🥰

Happy Mother’s Day to all you beautiful moms and to all who passed the torch 🥰 not an easy job but so worth it ❤️

Update, I did the second coat in matte and the color went deep purple with a touch of brown in the entry shadow. It’s an interesting color. Deeper than blackberry and brinjal but frames 5e other colors. I kept getting little gifts throughout the painful day 😅🥰 ceiling is done! Thank goodness! Now on to walls and trim. Time is ticking!! Keeping me focused though so it’s worth the stress deadline 😉

Ceiling came out really well. I can’t believe how much work you have done in this room. It’s going to be “showcase” ready for your Mom!! I hope Miss K appreciates all your immense efforts for her!

Good afternoon Houzz fam 🥰 Thanx Flo 😘 She does! She just finished her AP calculus… 3(?) (not sure if she’s my kid 😂 )final today, she has a few more easier ones so she now has time to rejoice 😂 …and hopefully help! 😉 Anyway, now we need the room color 🤞 here is -50% Manchester (like living room) but it goes too yellow in here and Sw match to Worldy Grey. I do like it but not sure it goes with taupe travertine in bath. The door will be painted so that matters imo.

Looking great DD! Haven’t got to be here much, not that I’m really needed 😂 , but my oh my! If that color is going a deep purple, do the entire room 💗 you think that could be amazing! Or too much? Your fix it skill is amazing :).

Perhaps a bit shabby chic off whites old school on the furniture with airy light bedding? If of course Ms. K approved :). Fit for a princess 💗

Thanx Flo and Alice! Of course your needed Alice 🥰 my whole house has been designed by Houzz committee. Everybody has a name on something in here 😁 as to going all dark, not this time. We need it more cheery for Ms K and guests. It’s a happy room with all the beautiful light and view 🥰

Even though my gold leafing got nixed 😂 I would still like to put a thick quarter round trim around the ceiling to hide imperfections and forgive the line between light and dark - may I do that?
