10 Years and FINALLY Getting It Right with My Houzz Team

This dilemma is a continuation of two years of design deliberation from my original dilemma’s call for help. My site was glitching so had to start anew.

Everything is looking great. Glad Mom is able to help out. Just make sure to have some relaxing fun. I am confident this is going to be a “showcase” room. Patience!

Kc. DD is quite a bit further east of San Diego.

I miss that on the news but I must have been extra busy cooking and didn't hear it good my got it plugged up here and glad it wasn't near you that's what I think about every time I hear a plane go they're flying a little low even though the airports quite a ways from my place but they do start to lower themselves then I know it wasn't a crop plane or a helicopter and since they've been falling from the sky lately almost daily good to know everyone's okay and hopefully you're enjoying Mom and getting some good cooking!

Kcooz we all aright! Thank you for thinking of us as we get flights way overhead headed to San Diego international sometimes depending on the winds. We are about 15 min southeast of that area. Poor people - what a mess 😢 it was probably headed to Montgomery field airport nearby there. Looks like the pilot made a stellar attempt to hit the street in the dark and fog…but not enough info yet. Happy, my mind also jumped to this is happening more than usual but a comment on one of the news sites posted crash stats to every 100,000 miles flown and sadly we are in the average for crash data. 🤷🏼‍♀️ My pilot dad always said, “the most dangerous part of flying is the trip to the airport!” 😉 Either way, just horrible 💔

Hi DD, how was the visit with your mom?

  • yesterday

Good morning Houzz fam 🥰 Molly, the visit with mom went wonderfully 🥰 her health has improved immeasurably 👏 even went shopping for a few hours. We all get on mom’s schedule when she is here so we are slowly returning to ours 😂 it’s been a crazy summer!! After mom left, aunt Nancy visited and bought me an amethyst table! I’ll attach picture below. Will need help as to placement whether beside the recliner or beside the couch 🤷🏼‍♀️ mr muscles sent aunt Nancy to prepare me for his news…he plans on getting engaged to his longtime girlfriend. Then we sent him a ticket to visit us and have some family talks. Will update that news as it unfolds. Meanwhile, Chloe had her newish beau here for a visit for ten days - Texas boy, Flo 😉. Quite the timing lol! We adore him and she is currently meeting his family at their Montana cabin! Update is that she Loves them which is very special since he is an only - so they will be gaining a daughter if it goes as they are talking 🥰. They seem to be well suited 🙏 Aaaaaaaaaaaackkkkkkk! Life is changing. Whew 😅 This is NOT easy!!! Ok, back to K’s room….layout- which is still giving me grief! It’s “griefing me” as Ms K would say 😂 I am currently painting the doors - three coats in and hopefully just one more coat is needed 🤞. I’ll post pix from each layout direction. I tried a corner bed layout, which I really like, but K does not feel comfortable at an angle 🤦‍♀️ it unnerves her for some reason 🤷🏼‍♀️😂. Ps in the LR pix, pls ignore the bird cage…waiting to go back to K’s room!

    North wall over window:
This is the one that feels best next to covering the double window on the west side. So sad to cover any windows in this room 🤷🏼‍♀️ have loads of pix as this is the one we are trying to make work. The items are space savers for visual and current “living” 🤦‍♀️

Needs for room: desk, dresser (or bigger closet drawer combo- antique or built in ikea like pictured…color?), two low bookshelves or one tall, desk storage console or bench. Shoe storage (maybe under bed pullouts?). Flo, did you see the light is installed! It’s very cool! Downside is that it’s not dimmable, like site stated, so will find less bright bulbs and add additional lighting 🥰

  • yesterday

Here are Flo’s layout options for a refresh: 🥰

  • yesterday

Well it’s a pity she doesn’t like it angled because I like that too. But other than that I think your choice is the west window.

  • yesterday

Better to block one window then to block two with that room.

Hi DD, nice to see you! 😍 Wow so much going on with the kids-marriage talk! 💕🤦‍♀️

I like the new pretty table by the recliner because I think it shows more there.

I like K's bed angled too but it's her room so she gets to choose. My next choice would be North wall and then East wall but I think it depends on what she likes and how the other needed items will fit in the room. Light is cool!

  • yesterday

I love the amethyst table! Lucky you! I would put it next to where I sit.😉 Either location works. Yes the light is cool! What does see want to see when see is in bed? East wall or west wall? In theory, the west wall, but I hate to cover the windows. Congratulations on all the “love” blooming in your family.😉

  • yesterday

It is a pity Liasch! Thank you for weighing in! 🥰 Nice to see you too Kcooz 🥰 soooo much going on! Lots of self battling as well to prepare heart and mind 🤦‍♀️ I prefer the table by the recliner too! Yay! Ok, Thank you for your opinions. This is a tough one!

Oh my. Life is zooming on you isn’t it. You just have to roll with it and enjoy the ride! I do love the bed in the angle. I am very aggravated that the ceiling light isn’t doing Mable when we specifically checked and confirmed that. Bummer! Second best layout is with headboard facing double windows but still tough Feng Shui. Maybe second second is headboard in front of single window. Seems to give room a more spacious feeling which is very nice. Bonus, it cover’s flooring issues! I think! Haha! Glad your visits went so well. Long busy day so Nitey nite.

“Dimmable”. I have to find out how to turn off auto corre. It’s such a pain. Nite.

  • yesterday

Nite Flo 🥰 k does like the floor space to work out at the foot of the bed when in front of single window. I feel like the closet is a bit tight there but we could move it a smidge 🤷🏼‍♀️ it does cover the floor issue 😂

Hi DD, for me the bed in front of the double window is the logical choice. I believe it faces the entrance so you get a visual of the beautiful bed as you enter the room. The windows are framed perfectly by the bedposts! You could keep it simple by adding Roman shades to match the wall color.

Hmm Lynn has a very good point about the framing in the bed. It looks very natural. May be the right kind of blind couldstill let light into the room? Do you have to block that window? if you’ve got kids on the marriage train better hurry up and get your interior decorating done because I guarantee you that will occupy all your time and energy!

Good morning Houzz Fam 🥰 Hi Lyn! I miss you! Thanx for popping in 💕 well, you and Flo are in camp west and I have been fighting it because of the peaceful view and great light that washes the room through those windows. Everything just falls into place with the bed in that location. 🤦‍♀️😉 If the bed ends up there, then what type of closet do you see going with that bed? Should it be on the east wall the size of the bed? Should it sit to the height of the bed, lower or to the ceiling? We are planning to “build it in” so by code it stays a bedroom. I was hoping the dark wall would absorb the dark closet but if the bed is on the dark wall, then the closet is on the light one. On an another note Lyn, I picked up the mirror you liked (came in two for one) and it’s about 70lbs so before we anchor it in I would love your thoughts. Or if I should look for similar but smaller?

Liasch, I’m definitely feeling the pressure, especially with all the guests involved and my yard is still a mess! 🤯🤦‍♀️ Aaaaaaaack! (I always think of Shwshw 😁 - I’ll have to find that pic she used to post..)

    Found it! 😂

Love the mirror in there; especially with the vanity & dark walls! Anchor it well! It’s a keeper.

I'm not convinced on the bed. I understand it may make the most sense visually, but there's more to it than that. I'm all about natural light in a room and if it also will block a great view, I'd really think about that.

The closet can just be painted to match whatever wall it goes on.

I understand that you enjoy the light that comes from that window but it’s a bedroom! Other considerations prevail in this case and when you bought that big beautiful bed it is now the focal point! Making it work with what you have is your best option! Get the easiest window treatment for those windows that blend with the walls and that can be operated.

Position the bad would be good if the feet are facing toward the bathroom and then you got the window for the view you got the light you got it all!

Thank you Lyn 🥰 I plan on hanging the mirror above and touching the chair rail per Flo’s suggestion. That puts the mirror above the door and window line. Does that matter? Kcooz, I know, it’s painful! And I think of the new mom nursing with a view to gaze out to. 🥰 maybe the room will be so beautiful that it won’t matter 😁! I feel myself giving in to the easiest option. Happy, I like that too but struggle with closet placement and tighter space on each side of the bed 🤷🏼‍♀️ if the bed is on the entrance east wall then closet looks good in the northwest corner and leaves the west south corner for desk which is viewed from down the hall. But then the bed doesn’t sit as focal point and seems more looming 🤷🏼‍♀️ and when k leaves, desk can become pretty writing desk, chair, mirror etc 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hmmm… it sounds like the bed room is going to be used for more than a bedroom. If that’s the case I would seriously rethink blocking those windows and it sounds to me like blocking them is the plan.

Are you sure you can’t convince the resident to try the bed at an angle? How does it work with feng shui?

Also if it has a nice view I would rethink it for that reason as well. Are you very attached to that bed? Seems to me the bed is the problem?

DD, a thought. Is there a way it can be in front of the window for now, but with where the closet will be built, it could be angled in the future when it is a guest room?

The east wall is not ideal perhaps but gives the room more open feeling if you want to stay with windows available. Sure hate to cover the windows with furniture? Our guest room is like that and I didn’t particularly like it that way bc I always preferred seeing the bed as you enter, but it gives her more privacy in the sleeping times :). If you use the east wall, she could have the curtains on the inside of bed posts for extra privacy :).
