Do you have any furniture stores near you? Midwest companies Flexsteel (IA) and Marshfield (WI) make some pretty great upholstered furniture. Budget doesn't appear to be an issue, but have you considered second-hand for the console? I also love a pair of chairs, and have found amazing vintage ones second-hand. Do you have a photo of the room you could share to get an idea of the best scale for your space?

Hello, I added a couple of pictures of the old room with a temporary rug in it, and the former coffee table to give a better sense for the dimensions. i had been looking at the Ms. Chesterfield in sterling velvet from Interior Define and a Jason Wu chair in Copper Blakely fabric, as an example of where I had been headed. so wanted a velvet updated Chesterfield or a tuxedo style couch, an accent chair and then either two chairs or a loveseat on the back wall of the room.

The Jason Wu chair is nice, but leans MCM, is there another chair style that you might like with your sofa? It's a lovely room.

First comment - I love the ceiling coffering! 2nd comment - what is your style of furniture? Do you want pieces that reflect your personality and needs or pieces that are in keeping with the style and time period of the house? I'd think about those criteria before beginning a search for furniture.

Check out locally owned furniture stores that carry name brands and have floor samples to sit on. Often there are upholstery selection options. Also, Ethan Allen has a wide range of styles from more contemporary to traditional and different upholstery options. The have with several locations in the midwest.

To my mind, the furniture would be transitional, so an update on traditional styles. I don't want the room to look 1920s. I love the Jules chair from Hickory Chair, but it's expensive. And I can't find anywhere in town to sit in it. http://www.hickorychair.com/Visualizer/13169

Also, I am very fond of the existing wall and ceiling colors. The drapes have got to go. And I think I need to hang them higher, although then the wood trim on them would be obscured.

Ethan Allen has great pieces and a variety of styles! Not oversized or puffy bloated furniture. They also offer in home design services

And @Norwood Architects, just took a quick look at your website and saw you worked on Rumi's Kitchen in Atlanta. Happened to have lunch there two weeks ago! A beautiful space, congrats! Do you have anyone who works on small residential projects (like picking out a couple pieces of furniture?) virtually?

Also, I tend to like the more updated furntiure often sold online, but we don't have those showrooms in town. Have been to Ethan Allen, they told me I should double my budget to buy there, and I only saw a few pieces that seemed to fit the bill (of course that's all you need!) so I didn't pursue.

Basically, what I'm saying is someone should open up a sophisticated, updated furniture store in St. Louis.

It's frustrating when you find a piece you're interested but can't find it on display to check out in person. Here are the sofas I like from each store you mentioned: Pottery Barn Carlisle, Henley, Chesterfield; Crate and Barrel Jesper Leather in Fawn or Sable, Monahan, Crawford, Avondale; Macy's Braylei in Camel, Mouse Gray or Baltic Blue, Ciarah in Chestnut, Kallison in Buckwheat. Of course, you would then have to check if any locations near you have them on display. Also, since you want to keep your wall color, a custom fabric will probably be your best option unless you go with a classic like leather cognac which would look amazing with your rug!

@btaylor636, Hickory Chair makes great furniture. I think you would love the chair, it might sit a bit stiff to begin with, but every piece I've owned from them is high quality, well made and lasts. I like the Jules chair also.
