I think there is a thousand mile spread between the dull of your space and the CHAOTIC appearance of your inspo.

Start with a new sofa in a fabric, and only ONE.

Add a chair or two. Do NOT block the fire, and nobody can see what you have beyond.

Get a colorful rug. Add some colorful art.

Pull color from art and rug and add pillows to the new sofa. .......

The inspo is a bridge too far. Sorry.

You simply must unblock the fireplace...bad vibes. Try this: leave the sofa facing the camera where it is, and move the other one opposite it so the two are facing each other.

You have an inspo photo, use that...of course it is a teen's room but I think you just want some color and punch. Here is a style mood board of colorful accessories to jazz up your space. I chose a colorful paisley fabric wall hanging and selected colors from it.

I could go on adding items but you get the idea...get stuff you love. Search more inspo photos using phrase 'maximalilst boho decor'. Have fun!

Agree with Jan. The leather sofas are too big for the space and too dark in comparison to your inspiration picture. Go for a more adult bohemian, eclectic look, like these ideas, perhaps:

The beauty of a collected look like this is that you can often put them together with vintage and flea market finds. It doesn't have to cost a lot of money, but it can take time to put it together.

Oops, I just read that you want an all new living room re-design. My previous post merely refreshed your existing room...sorry 'bout that!

Are you sure the furnishings layout is correct for this room? Rooms with corner fireplaces typically do not place a sofa in front of the fireplace.

Look at the chart attached below for how to hang wall art because you need some guidance.

If you post the total room we can probably assist in improving the furnishings layout.

Pinterest has some great inspirations where you can figure out your taste and then decorate along the lines. I'd would go with a lighter color theme and less furniture. Make the fire place the focal point. Can the TV go over the fire place. Also, the TV and wall decor is hung too high. You don't have to go all Crate & Barrel neutral but it would make the room appear bigger. Add colorful pillow, a throw. Art work should be unique and not mass produced. Larger scale (or 2) black and white photo art or a cool thrift finds. If you are using natural wood table etc, make sure they are not a matched set. But also the living room has to match the rest of the house, the flow. Is lighter upholstery practical because of kids/pets? Something to keep in mind if you make big changes. A bit hard to see but I see wood floors. They really warm up a house and don't need to be covered up that much. Re-consider wall color based on furniture color choice. Warm/cold/lighting situation. It can be a fun project. I'd look on Pinterest, create a virtual mood board and use the inspo here.

If you feel your home is a bit monotonous, you could start by changing the lights in one room. The lights in a room can have a big impact on the overall style of the room. There are vintage table lamps, chandeliers, European-style lamps, minimalist spotlights, and so on for example, buying alabaster pendant lights can add a lot of design and texture or a decorative rug can make the whole space feel warm. You could also buy a beautiful vase and fill it with fresh flowers. Once you add some color to the room, it won't feel monotonous anymore.
