Will columbine form viable seeds if the flowers are cut?

last year

My toddler broke off one of my few native columbine plants while it was in full bloom, so I put it in a vase. The flowers lasted a few days and are now forming seed pods so I'm assuming they got pollinated, but I'm wondering if just keeping the stems in fresh water and maybe trimming them occasionally to keep the stems fresh will be enough to get viable seeds from them. If so once they dry out should I plan to striate them at the end of winter next year?
