The chair legs look antique, but the fabric and upholstery appear new-ish. It's a wing back chair that has a pretty big footprint. Do you plan to use it as is? Could you show the space it's going into?

I would paint the legs as they are pretty worn…either brown or black and treat this as an accent piece in a living room…the upholstery looks well done…but suggesting where and how ( or whether )to use it ….relies on seeing the room in question

Not an antique, an old chair. 1940/1950/60 ish reproduction. Nobody can help you use it in the living room without seeing the living room. It will not have been a "freebie" unless it works without a new covering.

I love wing chairs and have quite a few in my house. Agree with Jan, it's a mid 20th century reproduction, and needs some TLC. We inherited one of those from my MIL with the same legs in a scuffed up brown finish and an old worn fabric. We painted the legs black, and reupholstered it in a white linen with navy welting. Here's a photo of the chair in a bedroom. You just have to make it work with the rest of the furnishings in your living room.

It's a nice looking chair whether antique or not. As someone else said the legs are worn and could use some work. The upholstery is kind of interesting. Do you have a spot in your home to use it?

Someone recently posted images of two vintage chairs reupholstered in FABULOUS modern fabric. Bold! Modern looking! “Bedroom Chairs: Do they coordinate together?” Check them out! I would place the vintage of this chair at 1920s-1930s…but could be wrong. And I would have the wood on the legs refinished, not painted. Mahogany, perhaps?

IMO if you love it why does it matter if a true antique or not. Not my style but in the right spot I guess it can work. IMO the legs are the nicest part of the chair

Based on the legs, could be antique or vintage.

    Perhaps this will help.

I bought a velvet wingback in the 80’s and had in my living room, moved it into a bedroom and finally gave it away. The important thing is that the chair works in its location and I can’t see the upholstery suiting very many looks. Also, if an antique, the upholstery is not doing it any favors. Hope you can reupholster, as new fabric will give it a new life.

I just got for very little money two wing back chairs from craigslist. What mattered to me was not age, but whether they were well crafted or going to fall apart in a few years. Tug on the arms, lift up the chair just from the front of one arm and see if the while chair lifts or if the frame torques.
