I don't know if you want to have family meals at an island where you are all lined up on one side of it like birds on a wire. That doesn't facilitate conversation. In order to get the best advice, post pictures of your existing kitchen and any drawings or renderings you have of what you're considering in your remodel. You may get comments on things you don't want comments on, but you will get some very useful information along with a lot of opinions which you can take or leave as it suits you. :-)

Thanks for the reply. The good new is I will be able to have seating on two sides so not just a line up. I’ll get back to my computer and add one of the preliminary drawings.

My island is more of a table style instead of a long line of seats. We have three drawers and a door with 3 shelves on each side. It seats 3-5 comfortably. We have big chairs for the kids for now until they can sit without a high back, and adults use stools.

Sitting at a counter stool is fine for kids or for an adult to have a quick sandwich, but regular dining at counter height is terrible, IMO. If you really want an eat-in kitchen, shorten or remove the island get a table. If your kitchen is really narrow, you may not have room for an island, esp one wide enough to use as a dining table on the regular.
