Is this hexagon floor tile right for my bathroom renovation?

I purchased this floor tile 2 yrs ago when my renovation was supposed to begin. FINALLY after 3 no show contractors I’ve gotten a nice pro to do the job and the alcove shower tile will be done in a few days with the floor to soon follow. Over time the initial design changed from solid surface shower walls to a white chippy finish cottage style subway tile with an English chintz handmade tile border around eye level. The black faux marble hexie floor tiles are 8” and along with the white veining theres also a lovely gold. The grout will be black. The plumbing fixtures are Delta Cassidy in champagne bronze. Its a small room and a bit of the tile will be covered with rugs. My concern is, this tile being hexie shaped looks fairly modern IMO but virtually none of the other elements in the design are. Its more cottage or English Country if I had to give it a name. . Perhaps I should do a white square tile instead, installed in a diamond pattern to reflect the tile border design?

Sorry but no and it does not go with any of the other choices That accent tile IMO is all wrong but I would need to see the reason for all of those choices which to me are just too much of a mismash

A carrara marble porcelain look alike (white with gray) is more classic and would fit with what you're doing better. I also think it would be better to forgo the accent in the shower and use wallpaper instead to get the look you're going for.

Thanks for the tips everyone! However, the accent tile stays. I am a ceramic artist and made that tile specifically for this look. They are made from glazed tile with fired on ceramic transfer decals purchased from a supplier in Stoke-on-Trent in England where this style is quite popular. I have sold a lot of this tile in my Etsy shop. My buyers and followers on Instagram all appreciate this style whether you want to call it Cottage, English Country or whatever. I love mixing finishes. I am an artist and am very brave. I do not decorate or design for other people or for resale. This is my 5th and last home. My husband and I are semi retired. I am making this bathroom reno for me, no one else. All I was asking for is whether to forego the hex tile and do a white square on an angle. That is all. Not a commentary on my design choices, other than the floor tile. I will be limited to what can be found at local big box stores.

    I love your tile!

However I agree the floor looks out of place

Classic white diamond pattern with the old English looking tile would be best. I would use a smaller scale diamond than you have in your “feature tile.” Do you have a picture of an old English bathroom with tile like yours? I would be curious to see it.

I wonder if Subway Mosaics has the white hex in stock and could send you it quickly. I used it with the daisy pattern in my bathroom and I think it would work perfectly with your other tiles. It's a matte glaze and the tile is flat so your wall tiles will be the star.

When you click on their solid colors, it will take you to another page where you can choose any of their colors.

BTW: As an artist also, love that you're incorporating color into your bathroom. Yay!

Here's the floor with solid sheets inbetween the sheets with the daisy pattern.

cpartist - I have that small hexie tile sans the black flower design in my guest bath which as you can see is very much cottage style. In fact I ordered a larger version of the same vanity for the primary bath that I'm now renovating. So I agree the small hexie is a good fit! I had to special order it from Wayfair though I think. I will see what I can find quickly, within the next few days. He'll probably be ready to do the floor here by mid week. But I also like my original idea to try to find square tiles and have them installed on an angle. So it all depends on which one I find. Thank you so much! Its so uplifting to have a commenter who "gets me"!

Well darn why stop there?!! LOL! here is an inspiration photo showing how I plan to decorate around my tub. Except that I will have a tile border above the tub. I have already collected a lot of framed vintage art and tole painted trays for a gallery wall.

I say stick with the black hex. Your wall and border tile are a riot of color and pattern. You are clearly a go bold or go home person. The black tile very much punches up the look of this room. I'm with you on ditching the label of country or cottage and just making this an artistic space that represents you. The black tile is unexpected, totally works, and adds another element to the room that is a nice complement. If you go white, then your border is the only wow factor in the room. If you go with a black floor, the whole room is a wow factor.

Kendrah OMG thank you for your very insightful comments! I totally get what you’re saying and wholeheartedly agree. Youve nailed nearly my entire home! I do have a black painted dining room after all! LOL!

Just for fun, Im attaching a photo of the light fixture. Unique! But Im having trouble selecting a mirror. The vanity top is black with creamy white base, similar to the one I posted in a comment below. I’m having a curved black granite backsplash made.

    Suggestions anyone?

Cynthia your other idea would work too. Mosaic Tile has both versions you're thinking of. Plus unlike the Wayfair version, it isn't pillowed around each tile and it's a matte finish.

As for getting you, cottage is my second favorite after craftsman. Either way, I love color.

The problem with the floor is less the black, although there's that too, but more the scale of the tile. It almost overpowers what should be the focal tile, the gorgeous florals.

Cynthia, I love the lights. I'd try to find a vintage mirror with a wood frame painted black with possibly a slight gold inner trim. You are an Etsy woman, I bet you can find something there. Or get a junker at a thrift shop and paint it. I think black with a tiny bit of gold would be great, not just because I'm a Pittsburgh Steeler's fan, but it would pick up on the black and gold in the lights and tie in the flooring and black tiles in your border.

I think this bathroom is going to be super fun. I'm itching to see your black dining room if you feel like posting pictures.

Oh thanks Kendrah! Actually I was thinking the exact same thing about the mirror! Ive been looking for black with a bit of gold. Ive no problem hunting one down and painting it. Im going to the Boukeville NY 2 mile antiques show next month and Im sure to find one there!

I posted photos of my dining room but youll need to scroll down the page link below. I started out doing dark brown but someone suggested SW Sealskin so the rest is history!

My bedroom furniture is black, every piece, so that played a big role in choosing the black for the bathroom floor. Last year I gifted myself the headboard Ive wanted for years, Ballard Designs Claudette. Im glad you convinced me to keep the tile! Thank you so much for your help!

Thanks for the link to your dining room. Wow, sealskin is fantastic. I have a new favorite black to add to my list. You have fun style that is really refreshing to see on Houzz.
