Was it furry? It looks bee-like to me.

Did it have wing cases on its back with a central split?

I’d say with some certainty that it is one of the flower beetles but the images aren’t clear enough for me to identify which one. Flower beetles can be beneficial so it’s important that you try to ID them. Since you are the only one among us with eyeballs on the problem…..that job is yours.

I suggest that you use the words scarab flower beetles to bring up images for you to look at. Your beetle is a scarab for sure. But scarabs can cause damage, depending upon the species.

OR! You can try to capture a clear, well-lit picture and we can try again for you.

Thanks everyone. It likely had the wing cases with a central split. It flew in and sat there, and I couldn't see any obvious wings that would be the case for a bee or wasp. I don't think it was a Hairy Flower Scarab but the oriental beetle is a distinct possibility, in which case it's a foe. It is obviously no longer where it was so no luck with further pictures. Here are a few zoomed in pics from the pic I posted earlier and a blurry one that I didn't include earlier. From what I can tell, it has a white to off white behind and white/off white longitudinal lines on the back and a broad white stripe in the middle on front portion.

Same guy or similar? Perhaps he is the one chomping on the azalea leaves.
