Adapter for connecting Miele W1/T1 washer/dryer to one 240V outlet

I am planning a laundry closet for a compact washer/dryer set. I am considering getting the Miele W1 compact washer which requires 120V/15A, and the Miele T1 heat-pump dryer, which also requires 120V/15A. Miele sells an adapter that allows you to plug both the washer and dryer into a single 240V outlet. This doesn't seem right to me but I am no electrician. I thought the washer and dryer are supposed to be on their own, separate circuits, no? Anyone with a Miele try this?

The NEMA 14-30 outlet is for a 240 volt 30 amp circuit. The adapter is designed for an outlet that looks like this:

    You mean this:

I AM using this in my house. A 240v circuit in the USA is just two 120V circuits that are opposite phase which share a common neutral. Most modern houses also have a ground on this circuit.

The shared neutral is not a problem unless there is a fault somewhere. The Miele adapter has fuses so no circuit or the neutral can carry more than 15 amps. There is no problem from a safety standpoint.

Some older houses have no ground on their 240V circuits. Just two hots and a neutral. This could still potentially be used, but the wall outlet would most likely need to be changed. Not as safe, but hey dryers ran that way for half a century.

The separate circuits for washer and dryer was due to an electric resistance dryer needing thr higher voltage and current to generate enough heat.

I can run BOTH the washer and the dryer on a SINGLE 120V 20 amp circuit at the same time. They both draw less than 20amps combined even with the compressor in the dryer running and the heater in the washer running. Have over 6000 hours on the machines with this configuration.

I am also using the same Miele adapter that Luna shared above for the last 1.5 years with absolutely zero issues.

I'm bumping this old thread. The adapter shown above splits the 240 volt into (2)120 volt circuits. Miele also makes a box adapter for 240 volt washers and dryers where both the washer and dryer plug in to a single box (2)240V. Because the washer and dryer both pull less than 15 amps you can put them on a single 30 amp 240 volt circuit which is typical in American homes for electric dryers.

Note: this only applies to residential models. If you happen to have a commercial model, octoplus, or Little Giant they will need their own separate 240 volt circuit.
