I need a medicine cabinet. What should I do?

I really need a medicine cabinet, but it may look odd with the depth as it cannot be recessed. Are there any stylish medicine cabinets over both sinks or should I get the cabinet maker to make some thing for the middle? I’m also going to be sending him the doors to repaint

When you're looking at medicine cabinets they will say if they can be hung non-recessed. When you hang them, make sure they will clear the faucets when you open the door. If you're replacing the faucets, have the new ones installed before hanging the cabinets. Measure the distance from your light fixtures to the faucets and make sure you don't buy anything too tall. 30" is a standard height. If the light fixtures don't stick out far enough to throw light down the front of the mirrors you may have to replace them as well. If you're trying to update the room you would want to replace them anyway. If your vanity is lower than the current standard height of 36" (including the counter) you may want to replace it also unless the people who use the room most frequently are short (or children).

Great points! Thank you! Yes .. we can completely change the light fixtures. The Vanity is 32 inches-just got a new quartz top

There are lots of cool medicine cabinets, but it depends on what you want to spend and your taste. You said that you are having the cabinets repainted. What color? What style is the rest of your house?

I’m just going to have them re-painted white or a light gray. The rest of the house is traditional.

Are you keeping the mirror? If so,

The one wall with the hand towel is up against the shower, and the other wall is up against a pocket door

You can easily get a nice-looking surface-mount medicine cabinet -- look for ones that finish the outside.

I like the way ours looks with the exception of the fingerprints on the mirror.

I used Robern medicine cabinets in my house. It was new construction, so I was able to recess them, but my parents have added Robern surface mounted medicine cabinets to their 3 previous master bathroom with no issues.

I bought this non-recessed cabinet. Kohler Maxstow... 3.5" depth. Option for long lighting on the side as in this photo and electrical plug inside... options like bluetooth speakers.

To save a lot of changes/money, if you found suitable dimensions, maybe consider placing on right wall or over toilet.

I’ve never had a medicine cabinet/have not missed, given so little can be stored. Drawer and cupboard organization has always met all our needs and when our kids were small, being able to child proof was important.

Not mine😊 Pinterest provided the inspiration! Actually we moved and now have a bathroom with no storage, so added a storage tower with drawers and shelving, which works well.

Also if you do 2 medicine cabinets, mount them so that the hinges are on the inside. This way you can open both mirrors and angle them to see the side/back of your head for hair styling!

We recently renovated our master bath and put these Crate & Barrel medicine cabinets in. We recessed ours, but you can also mount them on the wall. They are great!

@pgfoxoh That first one with the shelves in between is what I had to do. I wired for one big mirror and then changed my mind so had to cover the junction box.

I have a friend who remodeled her very small bathroom years ago. Behind the door he cut it the wallboard between studs ,maybe 4 feet by 2 feet or 2.5 feet, put a thin wood for the back, added shelves, painted. Put the removed wallboard on interior push type opener hinges and covered the hole, painted the whole wall. Looks like a secret door. Inside there’s room on the lower shelves for cleaning supplies, shampoo, hairspray. The upper shelves hold meds, makeup, toothpaste. It’s great.

Sometimes people choose to put one medicine cabinet on the short wall to the left or right of the mirror instead of on the mirrored wall. Could that work for you?
