need some direction & stuck w/funiture

I’m stuck with this late 90’s bedroom set. It’s good wood, wanted to paint but I have no one to help me move it outside to paint it so I’m trying to find a relevant/modern/ flattering wall color for this room! The yellow is making it impossible as well as the fact that I get a fair amount of southern light from one side of room but only later afternoon western light from the window in the picture. Aiming for a soothing calm atmosphere. This grey isn’t right at all. In the corners it looks almost purple at night and modern light bulbs just make everything look terrible in the evening which is when I’m in this room the most. I also despise this color of furniture right now! 😂 Can anyone help? Considered BM Senora Gray or BM Grant beige …I don’t know what to do. It seems like any other colors beside some kind of neutral just makes the yellow pop but the neutrals are chameleons.

    what about Benjamin Moore Mohair?

That is pretty, I’m going to take a look at that! So try to blend away the yellow tones would be the idea …

Southern light really brings out yellow in paint. I would sample a couple colors to see how they look in the light. Are you familiar with Samplize.com? You might have to move more gray, but it sounds like you need to stay away from grays with violet undertones. Stonington Gray is a popular more true gray. If you like something more like Grant Beige but it's not quite right, look at Edgecomb Gray. I have Pale Oak in my room with strong southern light. It leans gray, but in southern light it's not very gray, and it's lighter than the other colors you're looking at if that is a plus for you.

Some tricks I would try to lessen your antipathy toward the bed set:

Get a brass tray to set on top of the nightstands

    https://www.westelm.com/products/6297854/?Kenshoo=k_CjwKCAjw38SoBhB6EiwA8EQVLm86YCLFtQeXTWp1Ioov4kH39ZNO9-3xrbn0XHsVSizJPK-6rYUKxRoC5V8QAvD_BwE_k&cm_ven=NonBrandSearch&cm_cat=Google&cm_pla=NonBrand-Search_DSA&cm_ite=&gclid=CjwKCAjw38SoBhB6EiwA8EQVLm86YCLFtQeXTWp1Ioov4kH39ZNO9-3xrbn0XHsVSizJPK-6rYUKxRoC5V8QAvD_BwE#

If you also have a big dresser, too big for trays, use a runner on top.

changing the hardware -- I would look for a straight rod capped with balls like the elements of your headboard,

Experiment with highlighting the neoclassical details of your nightstand and other pieces with a substance you can easily remove if you don't like it. For instance, take some plain chalk or white toothpaste and rub it on just the raised area above your drawers. Don't like it? Wipe it off. Try it with something dark (A-1 sauce!) Do the opposite: Use something dark on just the indented parts along the sides of the drawers.

It might be that if you highlighted the decorative details it would make sense to paint just the drawers, which you can carry outside on your own.

Finally, maybe it would be possible to find a peel-and-stick wallpaper to do just the drawers + new hardware which would give you a fun new look depending on how you go with the wall color

Or you could ditch yellow completely and do a complimentary but surprise color -- or even just do a very textured high relief peel-stick wall paper in white.

Perhaps the nightstand could be moveable if you removed the drawers first. If it's on the first floor of your house, you could get a folding hand truck for less than $100 that would make it easier for you to move it outside or into your garage for painting. Going downstairs with it might be the deal-breaker, however. I like the Mohair wall color, in any case.

It’s a whole bedroom set with chest dresser and one night stand. I’m in an old 1930’s two story and with a turning staircase so it’s just not doable at the moment. I’ve considered clearing the room and doing inside though! Then I just thought try harder to find a wall color. It’s easier…sort of 🙄

    Good ideas My Two Cents

Kandrewspa thanks for the tips, I’ll look at that color. Should I stick with trying a neutral or is a more colorful paint a better idea? What other colors could work here?

Here's on more idea if you feel motivated too fool around with the furniture

I think your nightstands might look classy if they had a brass-finished top to harmonize with your bed frame. There is a cloth-application product you can use to give wood a brass-look, so no need to carry anything outside. It's very cheap, and you could do the back underside of the top piece to see if you liked it before doing the entire surface of the top.

I don't know how it would stand up to have things on it -- but like I said, it's cheap and you can probably just do it again if you get a watermark or scratch.

These are some interesting ideas, thank you !!

My kitchen and UR are painted what I call butter yellow, it was one of the lightest yellows I could find that wouldn't scream YELLOW! Room has white trim and gets full southern light. Prettiest combo I've ever seen. If you do paint a wall yellow, go lighter than what you think would be the right color.

    Picture #3

It's easier for my pc to post the link to a photo I found rather than download it.

#3. The bedroom is much bigger than yours but imagine how much bigger and cheery your room would look without having to paint heavy furniture.

BTW, I have a similar bed like yours and there's also a window behind it with curtains. It 's my favorite spot in the world, especially in the mornings listening and watching the birds. I'd never get another type of bed. :)

If you can't drag it outside to paint, try sponge painting it there instead.

Im still considering because that yellowish old color is just bad

You could look at painting the walls a nice blue color and get some blue bedding to help tone down the yellow tones. You could even try a nice wallpaper accent wall behind the bed. Below are some bedroom designs of ours. Take a second to look through them. Note the walls colors, window treatments, bedding, rugs, wallpaper, etc.
