Is Horticultural oil harmful to Syngoniums?

I sprayed my syngonium with horticultural oil and it appears to be slowly collapsing!

Is it slowly dying? Is oil bad for aroids? Can I do anything to help it?

Your palms, citrus, gardenias and hibiscus are all evergreens with fairly tough leaves that have a thick cuticle. Syngonium has soft thin leaves. I definitely wouldn't spray it with oil again.

Putting houseplants outside for the summer is helpful against many pests. Indoors they don't have to contest with wind and rain. Spider mites particularly like warm dry conditions. Outside bugs have to work harder.

I have found oil of anything to not be something to apply to foliage, but only on dormant plants (including trees). The oil clogs their pores and they suffocate. It may also be toxic to some plants.

I have a continuous battle with spider mites and scale. I decided to use hort. oil because neem oil smells so badly....

I often use an alcohol/ dawn/water mix to spray, perhaps I should have used it again...I wanted to get a quick control of the pests.

I sprayed my palms,citrus,gardenias, hibiscus with hort. oil too...I am hoping there will be no negative reaction...maybe the sygnonium is more sensitive to hort. oil because i have used hort. oil for years but I never have sprayed my syngonium before...I've been spraying the leaves, hoping I can dissolve the oil layer...Any suggestions? thanks

Well by now, you should have noticed a yellowing and leaf drop, if that were going to happen.

Glad it's OK. :) Soon, it will be dangling down the wall. The high perch is a great spot for a vine!
