Green Mermaid only if it grows tall and skinner then Whitney. Tall version of Whitney.

Are you saying that Green Mermaid grows tall and skinny and Whitney grows more squat and compact? Please tell me which of the varieties these look most like to you. These are both the same and I separated them into 4” pots. Thanks again.

In most color varieations; they come in tall, medium and short. The tall being like common trifasciata (only with color), the medium being futura (shorter but wider leaves) and the short being the hahnii group. Newhostalady seems to be spot on. I didn't mean to confuse you but wanted to include this type only.

No matter how Whintey is grown, it will never develope into Green Mermaid which came about from a sport of trifasciata with the same color variation as Whintey.

"I know this is an old post, but I didn't see anyone mentioning that when a cutting of a variegated sans is rooted, the plant that subsequently grows is the species plant. That's why those sans look weird. To get the same plant as the original, a portion of the rhizome needs to be included with the leaf."

I'm having trouble squaring this statement with the fact that both leaf and root are parts of the same clone and genetically identical. How can they produce genetically different plants? In most cases you lose the variegation part of the plant when using a leaf cutting. Using roots is only with a rhizome, not just any part of the root. It will produce a 'clone' of the plant taken from. To get another type which is referred to as a sport, comes about by a pup that for some reason came out differently. Best way I can explain it.
