Probably lots of creative ways to modify the cabinet of mirror over the toilet, such as window film, pretty contact paper, stencil over it - have fun!

What about adding a double medicine cabinet, which eliminates the need for added storage over toilet.

Another suggestion is to paint the same color as vanity/works with mirror and it won’t stand out/feel too heavy.

Last idea is to look for a style that feels less heavy/mimics shape of mirror and suggest a more delicate mirrored medicine cabinet so wall doesn’t feel too heavy.

My choice would be no cabinet above the tolilet and a large medicing cabinet for storage .

Function should dictate what you select. As we age we require more and more over-the-counter drug items. I would maximize store and include cabinets even over the toilet area. No one wants to get down on their knees to find medicines stored under a vanity.

Consider using the vanities from IKEA that have pull-out drawers instead of doors. They make more sense.

Thanks Everyone! Mom has decided against mirrored doors. We think we have found one with two doors and a little shelf - as someone noted, that would help lighten the look. Hopefully it's a good size and works well (I'll see it tomorrow).

Yes, extra storage that is easy to reach is very important at all stages, and particularly with age. My parents are making the bathroom more accessible, so they'll have a wall hung sink and countertop with they can sit at if they need to, and just a small cabinet underneath. The extra bit of storage will help.
