Design Ideas for a Large Bedroom/Office

I work from home and use our very large extra bedroom as my office. I would like your thoughts on desk placement. Most designs I see have desks facing a wall. This is not ideal because the background would include the bed (not professional for my work), I don’t like staring at a wall all day (seeing out the window is nice), and the lighting is terrible with a window at my back. I currently have a corner desk with one side facing a wall and one side facing the middle of the room. I’m considering buying just a standard desk and having it face the middle of the room (I’m about to buy all new furniture so I’m using this as a chance to redesign a bit). Do you all think it will look ok or is this a funky set-up?

I think I need a to scale floor plan. I also am not a fan of a bunch of bookcases displaying stuff that does need to be displayed . Waht pieces do you need to do your work? I think those bookcases could function as places for work stuff along that wall. I agree I do not like to face a wall but in my office I have ahuge window behind me and it is great because it allows light without blinding me.IMo you need to designated spaces so the dresser belongs in the bedroom space . Do you do Zooms ? If so you have 2 choices you either have a wall you do not mind it showing or a fake one. All of the art needs to be hung much lower and once we have a floor plan and the size of desk you need and what needs to be in the office then we can help. I do think natural light is a must for an office not so much for a bedroom Please post the plan here in jpeg foramt DO NOT start another post

That is a nice window -I would probably keep my desk where it was bc I agree the view is likely the best - a corner desk can give lots of good workspace as well

if it were me, I would probably see if I could move out the bookcase to the right of the bed (there is a lot of dark furniture) -

If you are buying all new furniture it's hard to give advice bc it's not too clear what you like - just make sure you buy a desk with sufficient storage or plan to add other pieces with storage (I feel like lots of the WFH offices they show online are not realistic)

Adding a tailored bedskirt would help hide the mattresses

I am on zoom calls all day. While I don't mind a temporary wall as a background, I'd like to avoid it if possible (again, this requirement is a nice to have rather than a must have). I currently keep my background blurred at all times so it's ok. I'd just like to avoid that if possible.

Also, my window faces west and I do not have a big tree providing shade so the sun is brutal in the afternoons. I cannot have the window behind me because the lighting is terrible from the sun after ~1pm or I will have to close the blinds completely. .

Here are the dimensions of the room (18' x 17') (I have 9' ceilings for the most part with a soffit that comes down 12" around the entire room from the outside wall that is 2' wide):

Define where you prefer your desk and play around with different floor plans; maybe take advantage of more of the floor space. Drapery or blinds will filter the light.

Regarding new furniture, and colors (including paint), suggest a light and airy feel. There are endless choices and for ideas look at a ton of inspiration rooms.
