Need Layout Advice for 16'x19' Family Room

We recently renovated our kitchen so it is now open to the family room. We need help arranging and decorating to make the FR attractive and comfy. Hard parts are where to put the TV, how to decorate the fireplace mantle, what to do with that long plain wall, and how to arrange seating (basically everything). We need to purchase the coffee table and are willing to replace the sofa/chairs.

Keep the TV where it is but maybe a wider stand and wall mounted TV.Waht ever you use to sit on to watch TV should be facing the TV so maybe the sofa facing th eTV and the 2 chairs facing the FP I cannot tell how much space you actually have behind the sofa but moving the Sofa back a bit would be a good idea .Yoy for sure need art on that large wall and for right now with Christmas you can use some nice theme decor for the mantel and then replace that with a nice piece of art after .

Remove the chair rail. It is dividing the room - not in a good way.

Thank you for your ideas. Do you think the smaller console table could be placed behind the couch instead? Also, would 1, 2, or 3 pieces of art on the plain long wall work best? Or perhaps a mirror somewhere? I'm just not sure where to start. Also, if we can't remove the chair rail right now, would it be OK to paint it the same color as the wall?

A low back sectional (not a big fluffy sofa/sectional) will not distract from the fireplace. Two 48" consoles under the windows with lamps for low lighting and a 9 x 12 area rug centered on the fireplace would be pleasant and open a walkway to the doors and kitchen?

The TV should be on the long blank wall to balance the room. That display unit to be ceiling to floor and I suggest cerused oak to mimic the brick on the fireplace.

Thank you, Denise. I really like the floorplan and images you included with your recommendations. Now I feel that I have a better feel for what will work!

Thank you for showing us another option! If we just used art on the wall opposite the fireplace, what size would look balanced?

Since that wall opposite the FP is so very large, I'd consider a series of items instead

Select of set of something that will extend across the wall.

The first two ideas are great. I think I'll "tape out" the art on the wall as a test. Thanks again!

Thank you for including photos and links with your comments! I love everything about the first image. We have selected a nice piece of art to hang on the fireplace, but I will increase my efforts to find a wider console table and chunkier mantle.
