Best cleaning products for home (Wood floors, Quartz countertops)?

last year

Our last home cleaners used a variety of (discount, bulk purchase) cleaning products in our home that we were not happy with, and to some extent, confident in for our home. They used a wood floor cleaner that had some type of gloss "shine" finish, that permanently changed our wood floor finish. They were surprised to hear that we did not want our wood floors to appear more shiny. For that reason and others, we no longer use them.

I'm curious, when hiring cleaners for your home, if folks tend to provide a list of approved cleaning products that you want them to use (and other products that you do not want them to use)?

And moreover, do folks have any recommendations for best cleaning products for (now recently refinished) wood floors, food-prep and non-prep countertops, etc.? We now have new quartz kitchen countertops (food-prep area) as well to be sure that we're both cleaning aesthetically, and also for health/safety.

Thanks in advance!

Mrs. Meyers Clean Day Multi-Surface is great. (I've only used Lavender scent.) I use it for countertops, induction range top, mirrors, acrylic sinks, etc. with a paper towel.

Reviewers like Bona Hardwood Floor Cleaner.

Hi, i am a professional cleaner and keep stick of products that i personally love-i offer to clean w these or if the client has preferences they keep stock of those for me to use. if i am not pleased w the preformance of their products i ask if they would mind me trying my products. i have found that pledge is lovely for quartz or granite countertops. i polish w pledge after i have cleaned w a damp microfiber cloth and dawn soap. my fav all purpose (floors too) is melaleuca. its pricey but u dilute so it lasts a while. i use the melamagic and the tough and tender depending on how concentrated i need it to be. i bu on amazon. good luck!

For light cleaning of countertops, I make a concoction of 1:1 rubbing alcohol and water with some essential oil for countertops. If grease is involved, I wipe down with a dish-soapy sponge and wipe dry (you shouldn't get residue if you don't use too much soap).

I use Simple Green for other cleaning jobs (I make a dilution). For scrubby jobs, Bon Ami cleanser is terrific, has been around more than 100 years and will not scratch. Toilets get 7th Generation toilet bowel cleaner.

Hardwood floors get dust mopped at a minimum every other day, vacuumed once a week and damp mopped with distilled water on a microfiber mop pad only when needed. We don't wear shoes in the house, so it's rare that I need to "wash" the floor. A weak vinegar and water dilution is fine for that. I won't use the Bona or Bruce floor cleaners that are often recommended, they both left a terrible residue on my floors.

I only ever supply my own cleaning products for reasons like the situation you are facing. I know what I like, what won't ruin a finish, and I'm picky about toxic chemicals. If my cleaning woman has a problem with them, we talk it through.

I don't like a lot of shine. It often comes from chemicals and doesn't necessarily mean that the surface is cleaner. I know it can be disapppointing for a cleaning person to leave a job and not see a sparkle after their hard work is done, so I make sure to tell them I'm aware of that and happy with their work.

Flooring people have told me to vacuum hardwood floors regulary, dry mop. Damp mop a few times a year and in areas as needed that have schmutz on them.
