What would you change about my kitchen/dining area?

Hi Houzz community,
It's time for a change! Shoot me with some ideas to update my space. How would you change my kitchen/dining area? We have a toddler... please excuse the bibs.... I'm excited to see what you suggest! :) You can't offend me!

The two whites of the cabinets and backsplash don’t appear to clash to my eye. If that changes once the cabinet fronts are on, you can probably make them feel cohesive by styling your shelves with a piece of art that includes both whites. I’ll look for an example. I think the hinges and hardware should match.

  • last year

If you can get a white that matches the cabinets, consider spraying them white to just disappear.

The concentric circles represent the vaious tones from your cabinets, countertop, backsplash, appliances and floor. The art with the same tones helps pull everything together.

First 2 doors are on. We ended up keeping the original doors.

    We ordered gold handles.

I'm really fussy about mismatched color, and I think your tile looks fine with your cabinets. It's different enough to look intentional. And I love ffpalms' artwork idea!

We are adding crown molding to top!

tile and white cabs look fine.

spray your hinges w/Rustoleum metallic spray paint in a gold that matches your hardware. (or a matte black. either will be fine) Do very light coats. hang them up on a wire coat hanger somewhere so you can spray front and back. no drips. do 2 very light coats. wait until completely dry. if they are still attached, wait until paint has cured, use a light painters tape to tape off around the doors, and spray. carefully remove tape.

(personally I don't like Emerald paint. I hope it works for you@)

Handles have arrived and I don't like them.. it looks cheap to me. Any advice?

These aged brass pulls have a more rustic look that would look great against both the white and black cupboards. Also, they don’t have an open end that could snag clothing.

Nearly everything can be returned. What can't can be sold via social media.

I have just recently done a deep dive on knobs and pulls. I found that the quality of the big box store type hardware was really decreasing. I ended up buying knobs around $9 each, cup pulls same price, if I buy pulls I'll be spending double to triple that. (Or you could do what one person did and put the cup pulls on sideways! -- not!) The link above is a much better price than I found, but then I wanted polished nickel.

Should I try to spray paint the Initial ones brass colour?

  • last year

I think that a great idea. If they don’t turn out right, you’re only out the cost of a can of spray paint and some time.

  • last year

Maybe try the original with the newly painted white cabinets before painting them brass.

    You might like it!

the gold are way too modern (and overdone) for your style. stick traditional or maybe even cup pulls for the drawers?

you could try spraying what you have. but amazon has some nice choices.

(10 for $25) check Cosmas (and if you scroll down, a hundred other sellers will pop up)

I Love this style (koofizo maybe?)

Beth, do you think champagne bronze could work as a pose to gold?

The only reason I was set on gold was because the lowers will be black. Do you think I should just do black?

These are the ones I'm considering

What do we think of these??? Champagne golder and has a curve.

  • last year

I do like the colour but maybe wish they were a tad larger.

Here are the original ones on left in Nickel.

And more photos of the champagne gold.

Ilike the brass finish, but prefer the heftier original pulls. I also like the original finish against the white cabinets, but they may be too dark against the black lowers.

  • last year

Since you have dark hinges, I prefer the dark handle over the gold.

Little update... we're getting there. Man, does this take a long time. Please excuse the mess

Wonderful progress! It's going to be beautiful. Now that I see the bigger picture, get a can of Rustoleum and spray the top hinges white and the bottom hinges black. The hinges aren't decorative and to my eye, distract from the hardware that can be decorative. When I spray painted my hinges white I also sprayed the screws. The easiest way I found was to stick the screws into styrofoam and spray them. If you have a few nicks when you reattach, touch it up with a bit of white nail polish (a tip from a contractor).

If you spray the metal handles and screws, use some Gesso on them first. It makes the metallic spray paint stick better. I sprayed some guest bathroom handles brushed gold 7 years ago and they look perfect. With the higher use in a kitchen, you want the paint to stay on despite many hands touching them daily.

What a mess.. I'm sorry!!! Cabinet is removed for open shelving

  • last year

I would match the door pull color with the hinges. Also, it might be a bit too late, but I would have extended the cabinets up to the ceiling. That would have provided you with more storage and eliminated the dust trap! I do like the new cabinet color.

    Working on crown molding

Crown molding... just needs paint. Again, sorry foe the disaster. Lol

First open shelf is on! Thoughts??? How the heck do i style these lol

I like the utility of the styling on your first shelf. That shelf in particular should be for things you reach for often. For the upper shelf, you might want to display less used items, and perhaps lean a small art piece that will help tie everything together.

    Getting there.. slowly

I love, love, love this transformation! You are the perfect example of how you can work with what you have and enhance it to make it fabulous. Did you do all the work yourself? What change did you make to the floor?

Thank you all so so much!

This is the coffee bar on the opposit wall. Still need to order a coffee grind canister and a wall mounted mug hook.. maybe black mugs?
