Our build is under way now in the GTA. (I was formerly a HUDAC, later a TARION builder.) We're aspiring for C$400 sf. And that's with lots of cutting and scrimping on "expected" finishes. Fingers crossed!

But for a more basic home, assume C$225+++ sf.

Managing builds for others, I've found they can't resist the extras and upgrades that blow their so-called "budgets".

Thank you for your insights! Wow $400 so what type of build are you doing if cutting on interior finishes? High performance or complex design? What is driving your costs?

The build is 5,850 sf. modern, high ceilings from basement up--9', 12', 10'. Eight baths, elevator, basement walk-up etc.

That pile of re-cycled stone--C$500, the bobcat & operator C$300 ph.

(Makes you want to learn earthmoving, eh?)

Just got the bill for cutting the driveway, removing excess fill from the garage and placing 6" of 2" re-cycled for the future heated driveway. An actual bargain at C$20K.

Architect mis-siting the house, slow trades, unexpected soil conditions and now a winter build add up!
