Everything depends on the dimensions of the room and furniture. Basically, you want a rug large enough to fit under most of the sofa and chair. I have that same configuration and got a custom bound square rug so that the entire chair and side table fit on the rug on that side, and several inches beyond on the other side of the sofa. A 9x12 rectangular rug may work as well in your room, I suspect an 8x10 will look skimpy once you allow for a coffee table and space to move around.

Ideally, front legs of furniture should set on rug. Rug nice if it extends beyond end of sofa to accommodate end tables etc. Can you post sketch of room with dimensions. Doesn’t have to be to scale. I can draw scale drawing to establish proper size. Add notes to provide length and depth of sofa, chair and end table. Off hand, looks like you need 9 x 12.

It's a bit tricky because of the close proximity of the bar stools, but I would do something like this & make sure the bar stools don't touch the rug when pulled out. Ideally, you would want there to be a walkway between the rug and the stools, but that might not be a wide enough space.

If you have a table to the left of the couch, it could be longer to fit under that table, too.

That’s very tight width room. You need 3’ walkway on side from front door to balcony door. That leaves only 9’ and a few inches for furniture and rug arrangements. How long is the sofa? Good to have the floor plan. Thanks. Do you have TV in this space?

No TV in this space. Dimensions of the couch: 80"w x 38"d x 32"h

The chairs don't have to be on the rug, however we might suggest placing the front feet of the sofa or sectional on the rug. The chair can be on or off the rug. Below we'll include some images to help you a little more with this dilemma.
