Help with furniture arrangement and accent chair selection

last year

I have a room that is quite long and always struggling with furniture placement. Every friend has a different opinion! sofa facing TV, sofa against the wall, 2 swivel chairs on either side of the coffe table or not?

I also need help determining what kind of accent chairs and what color works best.

Thank you in advance for help!

Your doggie is an absolute beauty!!! I love the pattern of the rug. The first thing to do is to look at this room in its entirety - not as parts. We want a unified and cohesive space here!!!! The next thing to do is to discover your interior design style. In top HOUZZ search box, write in (one at a time) different styles. Examples include transitional, rustic, casual, contemporary, eclectic.

Need more information. Are you open to viewing TV from the side wall. Seating wise, would more than 2 chairs be helpful, if room /set up allowed. Are you open to moving TV (ie : tv on long wall and couch facing). A floor plan and dimensions will be really useful as you’ll also need tables/lighting. I’d hold off on buying anything until your layout is figured out.

Regarding swivel chairs, suggest shades below and if budget allowed, leather.

I think you need a rug that is much, much larger than your current one and has some colors rather than your current gray tones. You could relocate your current rug under your dining table.

center the rug on the fireplace and center the sofa facing the fireplace with the legs ON the rug. add a pair of swivel chairs to create a better conversation around the coffee table. rusty brown with texture upholstery ... or push that gray tone into a bluegray.https://www.wayfair.com/Three-Posts™--Hottinger-Nailhead-Barrel-Armchair-X119352347-L54-K~W008241236.html?refid=GX685254169595-W008241236_75817894&device=c&ptid=334199952123&network=g&targetid=pla-334199952123&channel=GooglePLA&ireid=114304630&fdid=1817&PiID%5B%5D=75817894&campaignid=17756479337&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6LHa06qhhAMV1Ut_AB3soAodEAQYBSABEgKATPD_BwE

I am open to all things and perhaps moving the TV would solve a lot. at one time I did have it pn the wall near the sliding glass doors.

I agree about the rug as well.

Also, I now thinking mayne I don’t need swivel chairs just some type of contemporary/modwrn chairs

Center your seating area on the tv in a 12x12 area, with no furniture against the wall. The 12x12 area should leave room for foot traffic through the slider and the past the countertop which may have seating. That should give you a seating area where conversation is comfortable and you are not blocking traffic lanes.

Move the TV to the long wall. It will accommodate a much larger screen size

Have the sofa face the TV

Add lounge chairs as you like.

I like the idea of moving the TV to a wall but not sure about the long wall given the sliding glass doors on the opposite wall and need for access?

If you want to keep the small TV over the fireplace then go ahead. This would be the layout then. Center a rug on the FP. Add the sofa. Add the lounge chairs. Make sure they are large enough to be comfortable.

Yikes if you prefer to keep TV above the fireplace. Now sofa looks cramped along the kitchen counter. No reason why you can't have TV on the side wall (and lowered), and still have walkway space to access the sliders. Sofa would run parallel to right side of fireplace so plenty of room behind it to access sliders.

So, if I keep the TV where it is over the fireplace that all works! if I move the TV and have the sofa on the wall how do I keep the room from being to heavy on one side? does the balance become an issue?

Mary, stand with your back to the fireplace and your heels touching the hearth. Take 4 good sized steps. That is 12’ and where the front of the couch belongs. You need room between the back of the couch and the countertop for people to walk to the slider easily.

Google a product called MantleMount. It is a mount that works with TVs mounted over a mantle. When you pull the TV down for viewing, the TV clears the mantle.

    That is cool!

Have you considered moving the TV to the blank wall to the left of the fireplace? We think it might work really well there, then place the sofa facing the TV and add the two swivel chairs. It would look similar to this layout we used in a recent design of ours.
