Kitchen Remodel--Deciding on countertop and fixtures

We have selected off white cabinets for our kitchen remodel and I am thinking of Selecting Skara brae countertop with a timber wood gray subway tile backsplash. I am also selecting this stove and matching dishwasher: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Cafe-30-in-6-7-cu-ft-Smart-Slide-In-Double-Oven-Gas-Range-in-Stainless-Steel-with-True-Convection-Air-Fry-CGS750P2MS1/308803543#overlay . The appliances can come with different fixture finishes including black and brass.

I am having a hard time making final decisions as sometimes the Skara brae looks more black and sometimes it looks more black. Any feedback or suggestions are welcome.

The sample and cabinets we selected

This picture I found online has Skara Brae countertop but I believe the cabinets are white instead of off white.

We already have a black stainless steel refrigerator.

From your picture they don't appear to go well together.

The counter is much more cool toned then the cabinets.Choose a warmer tone counter.

No, the counters and cabinet color do not compliment one another. Either change the counter or cabinet color. What are you doing for flooring?

Okay...thank you! I am looking at a warmer tone counter top. Probably, Brittanica warm cambria quartz which is very similar in appearance but the color tones match better...I guess I am just a little concerned of it being washed out. I appreciate everyone's feedback!!

    Remodel

Before you get to finishes, counter tops and WELL before?

What matters most is a very functional and good looking layout.

Post what you are doing? I don't mean a pretty elevated, or sky view. I mean the flat on paper two dimensional

Add it in a comment box below.

Thank you Jan. Our contractor came over and we discussed a plan to level out the first floor and put same luxury vinyl flooring throughout. The first floor is Kitchen, Dining and living room. We are going to be removing the wall between the Kitchen and Dining Room and a portion of a wall between the kitchen and hallway. I do want to leave some wall there as we have a bathroom off the hall and I did not want the bathroom to basically end up in the Kitchen. He took measurements and we were told to pick out cabinets, countertop, appliances and flooring. The cabinet people did not seem to be aware of the changes to the walls in the Kitchen but we did pick out the off white cabinets while we were there. I was initially thinking white but was fine with the off white and we will be able to save money with them. After reading your comment I spoke to my husband and explained that I do not really have a true sense or idea of what the actual layout will be, discussions of an island where we are removing the wall took place but nothing definitive was ever provided. I did try and play around using a free Ikea online design planner tool. I will add any photos that I can. The contractor wanted to begin with the flooring in the living room, then dining and then kitchen.

Maybe I will play around with incorporating the portion of wall we are leaving into a peninsula. My husband will be reaching out to the contractor today to find out about layout. As of now, I have the off white cabinets and possibly Calacatta goa as countertop. I greatly appreciate everyone's feedback! Thank you all so much for your help!

To start your contractor is not now or ever will be a kitchen designer . would strongly advise you post a to scale floor plan showing every window doorways where those leade. Use graph paper it makes scaled drawings easier. Show every meausrement clearly marked post here in jpeg format in a comments DO NOT start another post. You will get free info from actual kitchens designers and then your contractor maybe can install the cabinets or not. You have very traditional cabinets and the counter not only does not work with the color but not with the syle of the cabinets either Since the daylight makes the cabinets look very white I suggest you change all your lighting to LED 4000K before choosing anything else .IMO the only maker tha makes a great DW is Bosch and for sure not GE. BTW that inspo pic you posted is IMO a very bad example of what you should do. I never like blavk applainces since they eat lighting so switch to stainless the plain old kind and get applainces that actully work for how you use them not becuase you got a deal .

I wanted to upload a picture of the look that I really liked before going to the cabinet /countertop store. I showed the picture to the guy we spoke to and he did not seem to think they had anything like the countertop in the picture I showed him.

The contractor did come by to go over the removal of a wall and discuss a plan for the island. We will be incorporating the island into the wall between the Kitchen and hallway. Initially, I thought we were removing a floor to ceiling portion of the wall between the Kitchen and hallway. However, we are going to leave the lower portion of the wall intact and incorporate the island into the half wall. I have selected some new possible options of a countertop and backsplash to go with the off white cabinets.

Your counter choice shown above still reads as too cool against cabinets and definately clashes with the busy tile you chose.

if u are going with a busy backsplash, then your counter should be solid and vice versa. way too many elements going on. while they are nice individually, together they will all be screaming for attention. you eye needs to rest. each element should compliment, not compete with each other.

your cabinets are very detailed which means the other 2 elements should be scaled back.

your counter needs to 'warm', the 2 u picked are cool toned.

dont forget, you will have things on your counters, rugs on your floors, artwork, towels etc... all those elements plus 'busy' cabs, BS & counters will be visual chaos. Scale back your counter and BS, let your cabs be the star.

Or change your cab style and make your counter or BS the star.

The countertop I picked this go around I came up with when searching warm quartz countertop options. Is there a warm countertop that anyone would suggest with off white cabinets. I was more trying to incorporate some color into the backsplash between the off white cabinet and countertop. I will find out what options I have in off white with a simpler cabinet face and will continue searching for different countertop options.

This is where I selected the countertop from on my second attempt...I am open to any suggestions. https://www.msisurfaces.com/quartz-countertops/warm-colors/

it’s really hard to assess colors on monitors/screens - can you take a cabinet door with you and look at full slabs of the materials you’re considering?

I will try and reach out to the cabinet place we are using today. This is their website in case it is helpful. https://cabinetsbymarciano.com/counter-tops.html.. It definitely is tough to try and do this online. The photo's themselves have different lighting and then using the monitor or screen on top of it.

it looks like the last countertop choice you made does go with the ‘off white’ cabinets. do you know the specific off white volor of the cabinets? theres so many off white colors-some cool tones, some warm. For example, if your cabinets are a warm off white, a beige vein in countertop would be recommended over a gray vein which would go. better with a cook off white. I suggest you get a large sample of cabinet color, a sample of your. countertop choice and floor sample. Place all samples together in kitchen and view them over a few days to get a feel for matching. Same goes for flooring- stick with all warm tones or all cool.

agreed - i got a rug sample yesterday that looked warm khaki online and it was absolutely cool grey when it arrived. Look at everything together in person and remember those small countertop samples are going to be large surfaces when installed, i think it’s easy to underappreciate the visual impact they will make

In your inspiration pic the countertops are cooler than the cabinets and it looks fine and you like it. The backsplash does seem busy though unless you have quiet cabinets and countertops.

My name is Noelle and I’m a kitchen and bath designer. The original countertop selection is too white of a background for the counter so it will fight with the cabinets and make them appear yellow. I would choose something with a creamier background. While the backsplash you chose is beautiful, it doesn’t match the countertop, as the counter doesn’t have any/enough greens to pair well. I also wouldn’t trust a “marble” from Wayfair. Of the 3 flooring options, Aurora works best with this design. I’d love to help you design this free of charge if you’d like.

That's amazing! I appreciate any and all design help. I did already reach out to the cabinet/countertop people with concerns and switching to a simpler faced off white cabinet. I am going to try and head back over there this weekend. I do happen to be a big fan of green and love the look of wood. I don't think that backsplash tile is as green as it looks in this particular photo...I did order a sample of that.

As you really are far out from needing countertop and backsplash, I would for now just look around and get ideas. Waiting till the floors, cabinets and lighting are in place will give you more of a sense of what works. On one of my kitchen remodels I waited many months of living with the room to know what backsplash I needed. Unless you can do a 3D mock-up, just hang loose. Because the one place does not have what you want does not mean you need to change your mind on a product. I suggest you consider spending a couple hundred dollars for a hour or two with a designer. I have a good eye and been pretty successful with doing my bathrooms and kitchens ( my bathrooms are used in Contractor's advertising brochure), but used a designer for space planning, best $ spent.

Thank you so very much Nicole! From seeing everything together in your picture I am confident that those elements will look good together!! Is that using the calacatta goa? I actually had a similar backsplash saved somewhere, as my husband had said he prefers the subway tile look. I was also thinking of either black or copper finishes, so now I know the black will look good.

We are going to begin work this coming Monday...I guess I may be rushing things but I also know sometimes there can be delays or what not. I will be going to the cabinet place and seeing what samples I can bring back with me. I very much appreciate everyone's feedback. I would feel pretty bad spending all this money and having it look bad. @Francine Hughes I should have been more specific when I first posted that pic. I loved the wood look of that countertop in the inspo pic but it was from a really expensive home. I know you are right about changing my mind on the product, I think I am just assuming it is out of my price range anyhow. I will mention it again when we go back.

    Hi, its Noelle**😊

The counter is actually a Daltile product and is the Calacatta Alabaster and the background is creamier in person and would look beautiful with the cabinets (I work with Daltile) and our prices are typically less expensive than Cambria! https://www.daltile.com/products/Slab/ONE-Quartz-Marble-Look/Calacatta-Alabaster

The cabinets seemed more traditional so I went with this but it has a modern take. The green subway tiles are from Tile Club and pull in the gold from the counter which ties with the floor and the glaze on the cabinets!

    https://www.tileclub.com/products/luna-celadon-2-5x8?variant=43084605456535&utm_source=google&utm_medium=paid&utm_campaign=18135023935&utm_content=%7Badgroupid&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiA_tuuBhAUEiwAvxkgTjjwBHdCgL08lCrt4_vKXzdSN3f_EHbZSNsRNcq-hz6oYK2qeZjFNRoC200QAvD_BwE

I think the black hardware really puts a modern twist on all the expects and ties in the appliances.

So sorry!! I usually get Kristen. Thank you again Noelle!! :) I can see the "creamier" now. I can also see now in some pictures how "busy" the countertops can look when they are fuller pieces. I love the gold tying throughout the countertop, backsplash and cabinet. I really appreciate all of your help!
