Wow! I am so in love with those fluffy yellow and white puffs! I am adding that one to my ever growing wanted list of Camellias to buy. How much sun does it get?

It is planted on the north side of my house but it receives quite a lot of reflected light from the neighboring house. And --for several weeks either side of the summer solstice-- it receives a bit of direct sun very early and again very late in the day.

Jury's Yellow is by far my most vigorous Camellia, maybe something to do with being a williamsii hybrid.

What kind of soil do you have this planted in? How is the drainage?

The plant looks amazingly healthy and the blooms are some of the best I have ever seen on a Camellia.

We have heavy, orange clay in this part of the Willamette Valley, it does not drain well but it is probably quite acidic. I plant everything high in response, about half of the root-ball above the clay, the remainder covered with fine, aged hemlock bark and compost. I plant all of my rhodies completely above the clay...this after planting my first one (Crater Lake) in the clay and watching it languish for three seasons.

@artinnaturez8b Can I see a photo of the base on this Camellia and how you have it elevated above grade?

You can't see any obvious elevated effect due to the deep bark dust/compost layer, but here is the plant today. I'm doing stone work here too, so extra material has been placed temporarily around the camellia. I just planted an olive completely above grade and included a picture of it as well.

Eventually that mound won't be obvious either as I add more bark and understory plants.

@artinnaturez8b You could place some small boulders around the perimeter of that base, to create a natural-looking raised bed. Here is what that looks like for a small succulent planting in my front garden.
