pendant lights and chandelier in same room - what to do?

last year

Our dining table is planned in the same room as the kitchen. The kitchen has an 8x4 island with seating. I’d like pendant lights that coordinate with a chandelier or light that can go above the dining table. I’ve looked at pendant lights with milk glass. Some of the bell jar pendant lights are beautiful. Our style is pretty transitional. I want cozy cottagey vibes. Any suggestions on how to coordinate the lights in this space?

The entire space including the kitchen is about 21 feet wide and almost 33 long. Our ceilings are 9 feet tall.

Our windows are bronze. Our cabinets are Olympus green Benjamin Moore. Our floors are the glen Timberline. The wall is Benjamin Moore jute.

There is an alcove where a wood stove will be and plan to put two smaller swivel chairs there. The area with the wood stove will have black tile on the floor with a cream tile on the wall.

We have the Clarissa chandelier in the entry.

I am a big fan of the first rejuvination light you posted. What is the name of it and are those ones you are considering for the island? Do you have anything in mind already for the table? What shape and size will the table be? Can you post a drawing of the space?

It looks to be a stunning choice of finishes. Wow.

Your kitchen and kitchen choices are magnificent!

I too, am not a fan of the first light.
I think there are SOOO many lighting options out there. Let’s take some time to scavenge and find one that ticks all your boxes.

Imma look around a little later today and I’ll be back with some suggestions 💛✨

Also, do you know what hardware finish you’re going with?

It looks like your pendants will be in front of your windows, and so kind of disappear in the daytime. Does that work for you? Or do you want them to be more of a focal point?

This can be hung as a flush, semi-flush, or pendent. I have always liked it's fluted sides. Milk glass but with a bit more refinement.

^ love that! plus the light it gives off is so much nicer than all the bare bulb fixtures out there 😖

    Here’s what I was thinking

The first light I posted was a good classic pendant from rejuvenation. Those are pendants I was looking at for the island. We don’t have a table yet, but it will be rectangular. That’s why I was trying to find something more round for the pendant lights.

Our hardware is satin nickel or brushed nickel.

I hadn’t thought about the pendants disappearing. I guess I don’t care if they disappear. I’m one to options though.

Kendrah - what is the light with the fluted sides? I do like that.

    This is the space.

I think we will have enough room for a rectangle table that can seat 8.

Thank you all so much for commenting and for being polite. It’s been a hard day, and I was scared to even check my post. So thank you.

I think your choices are beautiful but they do look a little too alike for me. I like Kendrah's suggestion with your pendants. It has more character.

    Thank you.

If I did the pendant Kendrah suggested, what could I do over a dining table?

The pendants I suggested were thoughts on the island. I had no clue about the dining table. I’ve found things I like but don’t think it all goes together.

Your kitchen choices sound lovely. I’d first focus on the actual style (vs tying to match just yet) that will achieve the look of you are after and once kitchen is completed you’ll have a much better sense. Consider as well size and placement.

Think big picture and save all the pictures you are drawn to (look on Houzz and Pinterest) and don’t worry about the metal matching hardware for example. Mixing is done all the time and can feel more layered and interesting.

The lighting you provided is just ok (I had those island lights in our last kitchen over 15 years ago). For instance, these are contemporary/cottagey and would provide more warmth and personality.

    Your paint color

You referenced bronze windows and you could pick up on that metal.

Once you decide on the island, then look for dining table (when you actually have).

I wouldn’t worry about the hall’s lightning, unless you prefer both spaces being more complementary.

La_la - I hadn’t thought of using multiple fixtures at a dining table. Thx for the idea.
