Help with floating shelf

I need ideas—I like the large piece but I can’t figure out what to use with it. My son built the shelf and hung it as a surprise for Christmas so I would really like to try to make it work

I find the shelf seems to be too close above the TV and your large item on the left makes everything look unbalanced especially with the grouping not being centred with your vaulted ceiling (but I can see it cannot be centred, it would be too close to the fireplace).

The shelf on top of TV does not look right. Need to put shelf on another wall. Can we see more of that wall.

The large piece isn't right for the shelf. It competes with the art over the FP. I would use only the 2 glass pieces.

- Move the shelf away from the TV completely TVs IMO do not look good with any decor surrounding them. Lets see the whole space maybe even the DR

I feel like three things stacked next to the three sections of the fireplace doesn’t look right. Move the tv to over the fireplace (I know others will not agree with this!). Then put the “church window” where the tv is. Or ask your son for another shelf for that spot.

Thanks to all of you for your input. For an immediate change i plan to get rid of the large item on the shelf and place something stacked (art or trays maybe). Moving the shelf somewhere else will be a later project

You could use this image as inspiration. You could try something like you see on top of the mantle or on top of the console.
