What finish on shelves?

We are finishing up a kitchen remodel and need some final detail help. Kitchen cabinets are navy blue with wood countertops. I want to put something on wall by the window. Thinking open shelves, but can’t decide on color. Don’t think dark wood like countertops but unsure if they should be trim color… Ideas or suggestions?

Great kitchen! personally i would not do shelves as sitting “underneath” them won’t feel great I don’t think - what about some fun art on either side of the window? i could also see vintage blue transferware platters there as well (but I love vintage platters and trays….)

If you search ”kitchens with art” you’ll get some great ideas and you can see what you like

Sorry I would have to be thinking of some storage on that wall to clean off the counters and then some art if you have any wall space left . The cabinets are to me a bit modern and the table and chairs really country so not sure what the style is.

get table/chairs first .....whats nice is the pedestal table. I would remove the table cloth and use a runner/placemats ...... to clean up the look and likely keep the table. [Always work with what exists] You could get chairs in a more transitional style and be easier on the budget. A nice durable rug underneath all that. A corner display/storage set up would be my preference as you have two corners ....but your remaining storage needs arent likley known totally if you are just finishing up...... Agree w comment about avoiding open shelves with movement and heads underneath etc. which leads to " Art " instead ..... after corner set up.

seating area will be quite nice once the details are placed. new chairs with existing table will upgrade the whole setting....

No shelves there. As already mentioned, it's not great to sit under them. Also, your kitchen has a busy appearance with all the open shelving and different colored drawer fronts. The breakfast table area is a nice relief with its quiet appearance. Please remove the tablecloth and all the stuff on the table. Then leave it alone. A common mistake is to think that every surface needs to be decorated. It looks much better to have an area to give the eye a rest.

Thank you. The door& drawer fronts are being put on this week. The tablecloth is only there to hide the ugly table until we purchase a new one, although the table and room are rarely used.

No shelves. Consider an upholstered dining bench, a modern oval or rectangular table with wood finish like your cabinets to echo those, or oval white tulip table.

Maybe move your current kitchen rug under the table if both chairs can sit and be pushed back on it to define the space. Or get a patterned indoor/outdoor navy and cream rug for you mini dining area.
