We need to reduce heat gain on large south and west facing windows. Is it feasible to use manually operated solar shades? We want to be able to bring them up and down daily, so they need to be easy to operate from inside the house (preferably) or from ground level.

• South windows are 8' wide. 2' wide sliders on each side with 4' wide picture window between.

• West window (the window where screen is most needed" is a 5' wide slider.
• We're installing retractable screens, so hopefully it is easy to reach out the window to operate the shades.

Can this work? And if so, does anyone have recommendations for brand and/or vendors?
