Perfume Factory new growth after moles dig out 2 months ago

last year

in March we had mole/vole damage and Peace and Perfume Factory had their roots bitten. At that time there happened to be a post on this topic, and someone I believe oursteering? recommended digging the plant out, soaking in water for a day , potting up and babying them for best. Which I did for PF. Peace was not as bad so I just added more soil and presssed around the base.

Peace has recovered nicely. PF had not showed any sign of life and I almost gave up. If it were in ground I would have pulled it and thrown in trash can.

But today suddenly there are these new growth

Just picked my Perfume Factory from my friend after 3 weeks vacation. She has really babied the plant since it looks wonderful

Excellent!

They do recover fast if they are healthy. I didn't think my newly planted bare-root Lady of Shallot would grow so fast after voles left it without roots. I placed her in ICU and less than a couple of months later it looks like this. Yours will be there in no time!.

Hi f_a_n.

I read your opening post - in which you said PF showed no signs of life for 2 months, and if it was in the ground, you would have pulled it and thrown it away.

Were the canes green during those 2 months?

@rifis (zone 6b-7a NJ), I can’t be sure now. I believe most canes were brown and dry, but there had been green near base. It looked really dreadful so I avoided looking too closely

@rosecanadian, thanks! Yeah it is recovered, though it has lost some size. In the fall I will put it back to ground but with root protection
