Matching Luggage ... a retro take

last year

I don't need to have a matching set (and I don't), but I do like to be coordinated to car, luggage and even my home! No jarring colors ... and no colors outside my normal range.

This just delighted me! 1958 Chevrolet Martinique ...

What do you think? Would you have gone for it in 1958?

I would! They are even my colors for spring!

Well, I had a set of the luggage in the plain green she is holding, in my youth! I never saw the striped set, tho my mom's boyfriend had that Chevrolet (without the stripes).

Oh Funky!!! I saw that photo this weekend on FB and actually saved it, wondering when it would be good to post. I thought it was adorable. and you definitely found the right crowd.

    I adore it. Perfection!!

    I love that! So stylish.

Looks like the stripes are added fabric? Appealing.

I love it ! Not in my ”color” house but I so appreciate it all coordinates so nicely.

Count me in as someone who “needs” to be coordinated whether it be clothing, cars or

    suitcases 😎

Yes, I saw it on FB also ... they were purchased together: car with luggage

What I really like are the pockets in the trunk lid! (having recently gone from a minivan with tons of handy storage spaces to an SUV with two cupholders and door slots that don’t hold a #10 envelope, those pockets are speaking to me!)

I'd never seen a car trunk liner that matched the luggage. 😂Over the top .....no hair out of place...

    That is so cool!

    Very pretty!

I believe there was a push around that time to market automobiles to women, with some specially designed 'ladies' styles. Awhile back, I went down a bit of a rabbit hole learning about the Dodge La Femme that came with a matching purse and umbrella, among other things...

And my mom had a set of green luggage with a train case like the one in the photo - but that was in the 70s.

Super cute! There was a trunk luggage rack available for the classic Mustang years. There are a few people in my club that have them on their cars.

That’s me in a previous life— except that I was two years old when the ad appeared 😁 I totally coordinate outfits and luggage, and when I was in college I coordinated my wardrobe with my first and still most fondly remembered car, a Porsche 914 six cylinder hardtop convertible… white with silver and black racing stripes and a black top. Those days you would find me wearing black, white and gray almost exclusively.

Hold on. People match their luggage to their car in real life? Match their cars to their house? Really?

I get it for our resident fashionistas like kswl and mtn, but the rest of you?

Sigh. Apparently I need a new car.

What if you have two homes and two cars? All have to coordinate? Plus the luggage?

My aunt used to match her outfits to her car too, Kswl. I love that story of her ... and she still does but now she wears only black and white and drives a black car! At the time, she had a burgundy car with tan leather interior.

My only watching (house, car, luggage) is not to each other-- but they must all fall in my typical color families. I wear that gray-blue-green color on my nails in fall/winter and the first time, I was so delighted that in every room I went, there was *something* that matched my nails ... bathroom towels, kitchen accessories, duvet cover, etc. I don't wear jewel tones and you won't find them in my house either.

I enjoyed the picture and I enjoy the comments, but I too just thought it was a beautiful and eye catching visual. I didn't know people actually matched luggage to anyting.

We've always had the basic black, navy, or deep green. When we went to purchase new luggage about 10 years ago, we went for purple, thinking it would be so easy to spot it on the carousel at the airport. That was the big determining factor for us and we guessed wrong. There are so many purple suitcases coming around lately!

So true ... my luggage is somewhat unusual but is also becoming more common. I'll use a luggage tag to help. At the end of the day, my vision stinks regardless of the color but at least it isnt black!

And yes-- I enjoyed the FB image but I didnt read it. I saved the photo but the page refreshed before I went back to read the details or comments :(

@Sueb My luggage is black my SUV is white

my convertible is black. DH has black SUV and navy blue convertible. Today I went to visit a friend in assisted living …my outfit of

black vneck linen top, tan wide leg crops , black slides, black MZW bag , tortoise machete hoops & watch band all blended w/my black car😎

I change my wallets as well as handbag/shoes

sometimes daily. I’ve always done this so it’s just not a big deal. Comments were often made such as ” you have too much time on your hands ” or ” you can do this because you do not have children ” etc etc .

My philosophy was/is ”you do you ”…that’s what makes the world go round.

Ha - I have a purple suitcase too - it's kind of a raspberry color.

You tell ’em, Irish! Why have all these lovely purses if we don’t use them regularly?? I have made up small zippered bags of what I need (chapstick, small container of ibuprofen, zofran, bandaid; small comb, cough drops, hand sanitizer, hand lotion, a pen and post its, folding reading glasses and pepper spray and a few other items and have one in each purse in the current seasonal rotation. Then all I have to do is move my phone and wallet, so changing is easy.

I love burgundy and camel / tan and gray together, it’s a great combination. Hard to improve on the basic black and white though!

  • last year

LOL Irish2 ... that sounds very stylish and eye catching!

I have multiple colors of 2 of my favorite bags-- and now 1 color of a new bag (but will be getting at least 1 other color). I switch between them but the wallet stays the same (it coordinates well enough or matches all). I need to pass on all the other bags. I never reach for them.

@kswl our band director also owned that Porsche in black. One night a large group of us went to his house. The guys picked up his car and moved it onto the sidewalk. He was amused and did not get mad.

I would not have wanted the pink car, but I do like matching the car to the luggage.
