I agree, you need color, but you need to edit too.

although with children, that can be difficult. are you able to mount the TV on a wall? the storage below may be better utilized somewhere else.

Since you have a given... dark fireplace base... I would paint the chimney a dark color to unify the fireplace unit. look around the room and see if you can rearrange the furnishings using the fireplace as a focal point instead of lining the walls.

I would love to rearrange the furniture like you said but the space betweet the stairs and the fireplace is too narrow to fit anything and still be able to use it safely. I will consider your suggestion about the storage under the TV which we do plan to mount, indeed. Thank you!

You could paint just the ceiling.

I'm thinking mid to light blue in an eggshell finish. The eye will be drawn up so get a statement light fixture to replace the track light.

For the ceiling...Sherwin Williams North Star is a beautiful soft sky blue with no aqua tones because the blue in your tile has no aqua tones.
