OKNA Windows questions 500 vs 800?

last year
last modified: last year

Hey guys,

We are currently trying to figure out the best option for us in windows. 90% chance we have it narrowed down to 2. Looking at the Okna 500 vs 800. We are in South central WI in case it matters.

Long story short, our house was built in 1961, and currently has single pane windows in. We are replacing a combo unit, which is double hung, picture, double hung that is 115" wide x 53" tall. We're being quoted ~3700 for a triple pane in the Okna 500, in White/ white with a full frame replacement.

If we want to upgrade to white exterior with wood grain interior which would be the OKNA 800, it adds 705 to the price. Seems like a steep price increase to me for just wood grain, which makes me question what else are we missing? Not opposed to the extra cost if there are other features that make it worth it, just also don't need wood grain if that is literally all it is.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Thanks!

Can you explain to me like I'm 5 what the design pressure and reinforcement do? Air infiltration and metal lift handle I can figure out.

The DP and air numbers are very close and both very good , I don’t see the difference being enough for the money.

Sash reinforcement is always nice as it prevents sagging and gives the lock screws something solid to screw to, prevents deflection. Have not seen a problem with 500’s in this regard. The metal lift handle is cosmetic and subject to opinion. The 500 is very good and the 800 is great. The biggest differences you will notice are cosmetic and the price increase is very fair for what you get.

That's more or less what our installer said, the verbatim quote was that numbers wise it was an almost insignificant difference.

What are you doing with the rest of the windows in the house? I’d consider how the new windows blend in with old , If others are going to be replaced I would look at what the end result cost and looks are

gonna be. If you are working with Homesealed , he will walk you through this better than I can.

Not with home sealed, we're over in Sauk City, so several hours from them.

Currently keeping old windows as they are, so wood. But we know that's a project to come type of thing. This would be the basis of that project when it gets here. Ie whatever we do here we will replicate with the rest of the house

The upgrades in the construction of the 800 may not be value adds for your as compared to the 500, mostly because the 500 is such a good product already, but you are basically getting them for free in my estimation here. The lamination of the window is an expensive option and what I see as a differential in your aggregate pricing between the two units, is basically the cost of the lamination in our market.
