Interesting Apartment Renovation in NYC

last year

This apartment was renovated beautifully and thoughtfully during the pandemic. It has a true eclectic style that is vibrant with textures and color and has a collected feel that is interesting and engaging. It’s not my particular style but so well designed I think I could happily move right in as is. The info about her kitchen cabinet fabrication is worth the read in itself. Here is the gifted article:

And here is their living room:

Thank you for the gift of the article. I’m afraid I didn’t find anything to love except the dual aspect windows.

Very nice! That red, white & blue tiger fabric is so appealing - and I see what looks like Casablanca on the TV 🙂

Wondering about window coverings - looks like a translucent panels that slide out from the side?

I find it very odd that the windows are completely bare, especially in NYC, where people generally can easily see in. Also, I especially dislike bare windows at night, as they look like black holes.

Perhaps there are roller blinds/shades that pull down from the top, and I would be fine with that. One window has a plant in it that would have to be moved in order to pull down the blind.

I like that it's a little more organic colorwise than we often see

see. There's nothing the matter with orange wood, lots of wood is orange.

You might wonder how this wood works with Art Deco. Here is an of-the-period Art Deco interior in a house here.

In that apartment I think the blinds are up in the pocket created by the soffit.

I agree completely that the palette is very organic Pal, and think that’s why it looks so restful despite all the colors and patterns and textures and stuff.

Orange wood has a lasting bad reputation from the miasma of builder grade oak cabinets that were installed in kitchens coast to coast, often with wood floors in a different specie and color and tile that also fought with the orange cabs. And to be fair, many of the cabinets were of such poor quality and pedestrian style that their color became synonymous with tacky.

Very interesting style and bold choices. I absolutely LOVE that mirror and the kitchen is fab - love the teak.

They could move the front door? That is a generous building board! I don’t think I’ve heard of being able to do that, as it affects a public area.

On second glance, I think Lars is correct that there are no window coverings in the OP room - that's a nope for me too.

I have seen some mentions that no window coverings is an upscale trendy thing these days.

Ya know...I see this look in magazines, in big cities...it just hasn't hit home yet. Colorado. We're still doing brown leather couches. Raw edge tables with epoxy centers. Rustic handled jugs sitting on the floor with lanterns on the fireplace hearth. We're so "behind".

They advertise no window coverings needed as a selling point here.
