    Bought a ~300 lb. whole hog for $250 from a farmer friend yesterday. It's at the processor right now being transformed into sausage, brats, bacon, ham steaks, and chops. I'll pick it up late next week.

    90% off! Got a pair of Western Chief chelsea ankle rain boots to wear in the garden for $4.59 regular price $45.00 at fleet farm a couple weeks ago. Tried on a 9 but was way to small, but was able to slip on a size 11 and when I told the cashier she said it's because they are women's boots. Oh well, I didn't mind the white checkered print on the black boots or gold buckle straps I could cut off because they have elastic on both sides. Either way they work well for what I wanted them for and kind of like the pattern. What I don't understand is the retail was $45 but a similar men's boot of the same brand runs $90, so do they figure women are smart enough not to pay $90 or men dumb enough to pay $90.

    Lots of good stuff this month. Love the gazebo!

    I’ve paid full price for a bunch of stuff recently, but I also found a St John Evenings silk caftan for $12.99 at Goodwill. Still deciding on keep or sell..

    I bought a pair of Johnny Was embroidered leggings on Ebay for $38. (In the store they cost $130.) They look like new. Super comfortable and I've gotten lots of compliments!

    @Judidupi....You rock!

    I found a seller for this daylily....it has 9" blooms!!!!! They sell it for $9 vs other sites where it's $49. The grower comes highly recommended. I'm trying to place an order.

    There’s a huge, wonderfully organized, fundraising, garage type sale in my town. They take over the municipal ice skating rink and FILL it with items, everything you could ever want is donated to be sold. Mostly used but a surprising number of NWT things.The proceeds go to fund cancer services. This year was the 48th year of the sale, but my first time to attend. Now that I’ve been there, to help set up and then to shop, I’ll be better prepared to shop next year. 😁

    I bought a men’s Rossignol ski jacket, hoping it will fit my teenaged nephew, for $7.50. I also bought a lined, cotton, Talbot’s skirt with a scalloped hem for $2.

    A local nursery has already marked their plants to 40% off. I loaded up!

    I picked up these 2 huge baskets for $10 each!

    Also picked up a flat of Pentas -- I don't usually buy annuals, but I couldn't resist.

    But the best bargain is the neighborhood teen across the street who I pay to weed my flower beds. He is absolutely the best "hired hand" I have ever had! He doesn't graduate from HS for 3 years, so hopefully he'll be around for awhile.

    I love the soma enbliss wireless bra ... it is comfortable, gives me plenty of support and has no wires. They are running a "thank you" for soma rewards members -- 40% off.

    I really don't need any bras but I bought 2-- 1 in each of my favorite colors (white, mochaccino)

    Not a bargain, but still, the best purchase I have made in a long time.....the Dyson V12 Detect cordess vacuum. Do not use the "laser" head if you tend toward OCD. It will make you obsess over the dust that looks like green, glowing boulders on your floor!!

    The other head, though (purported to have magical hair detangling powers) is awesome on my wood floors and rugs.

    JCP, 18x18 Outdoor pillow. $4.99. regular price $40. (The fabric is beautiful quality, it's better in person)

    We needed a couple of bedroom mirrors at our beach cottage. I got this one on FBM for $25. It is about 30” diameter. This is a terrible pic (the seller’s photo) but someone had stripped it and never refinished it. I am going to paint it.

    Then I found this one, also $25, the wood is beautiful so I won’t paint it. It will go (somewhere?) in our ”real” house. Also the seller’s pic, not mine. It’s about 20” tall.

    My not bargain is this garbage can I bought for my newly renovated bath. I think it was $79. All fixtures are polished nickel and I loved that this had a rim that matched (even though not actually nickel). And I loved the fluted glass.

    I also needed a new garbage can for my dressing area outside the bathroom (also newly renovated) but didn't want to spend that much for that area since garbage isn't as visible. Couldn't find anything else I liked so was going to just buy another when I noticed this one with a black rim on sale for $30. The mirror frame and cabinets in that area are black, so I think it will be perfect. That's if it ever shows up. Tracking says it was out for delivery 3 days ago. CB2 is weird. They never email me order info even though they say they do (no, it's not in my junk folder). And they use some shipping company I never heard of and things take a long time to come.

    At the grocery store of all places! Over a pound of a wild caught salmon, a whole side! for $8. Chicken wings were a dollar a piece. Pork tenderloin for $5 a piece. I was pretty happy. Freezer is full of protein for the next couple of months.

    ETA: I left one off. I got 10 pounds of chicken leg quarters for $8. Great for roasting or grilling.

    No oly, they're typically not, they're typically more. Kroger has been selling packs of chicken for $5. Been drumsticks, but I saw the wings and jumped on it. I have been paying $20 for 14 wings (intact-with drumstick, lower wing, and tips), and this was $20 for 22 wings. So 8 free wings.

    @rob333...It's interesting to see how food prices differ between TN & CO. Kroger had the salmon for $6.99 a pkg...a dollar less. I purchased 10. The chicken is a KILLER sale price! Sale priced $1.99lb here & up.

    @jsk....Those are really nice!

    @Sueb20....Gorgeous mirrors! What a nice find!

    @Springroz....Awesome! I luv my old V8Dyson...it's going strong. V12..much better!

    @Funkyart...Nice...no wires! Perfect!

    Everyones getting some GREAT buys! Keep 'em coming....

    A new to me brand Juniper and Lime at Bealls at an inexpensive price. I am looking to elevate my usual tees.

    At $18 each, they wash well and are super comfortable. I shop online for a very large selection.

    What I also like it that I stay in the same size. No vanity sizing. Photos are accurate. The middle one is more fitted and that is how it is in person.

    Thanks, Rob. I’ve been thinking of fixing teriyaki wings for a party but haven’t shopped yet. I didn’t find any at TJ’s or my food coop. I like to buy organic, but it looks like no one has those anymore. I’m going to see if costco has any, tho they probably won't be organic. I wonder what their price will be, if they have them at all.

    We like chicken thighs. Our Jewel often has them (or drumsticks) for 99 cents a pound. Chicken breasts have been enormous -- and tough. I bought four Prime boneless NY steaks at Costco yesterday for $12.95/lb. The last batch from there were as good meat as we've had in a quite a while -- beautifully marbled and tender. Last week I paid $18.95/lb. for one Choice steak at Heinen's.

    Free....and runs GREAT! Husband drove it around mowing next to the road in our community. I'll recover the seat soon or I'm told it holds water if you get the seat wet in the rain. It's a 42" cut.

    @Alisande.....It's a 2003 Craftsman, 6 speed. Our neighbor, Gary, put NEW blades & gas filter on it, then it wouldn't start. My hubby, is a genius mechanic, luckily, put a little 1.5" rubber tube over a split vacuum hose....and it's fixed!

    @chisue....That's expensive beef! 4th of July sales here...$5.37 for Ribeye....and it's marbled perfectly....and REALLY good. Ground beef 90% lean $3.57lb. Chicken for $1.99 is a sale price for dark meat...it keeps going up and toilet paper....$30 for a 24 roll pk of Charmin, a 6-pk of store brand is $4.

    nicole -- Pricey beef. Is it because the cows have to walk farther to get here?

    Neighbor just gave me buckets of his "Grape Crush" Asters. He said they spread. He told me to keep a few and the rest i can plant in the HOA planters. I purchased a few hot pink ones to plant along side and.....a few White Shasta Daisies($4).

    Beautiful flowers, nicole! And get this: we used to have a mower just like the one you got for free. I did the mowing, it was a good one. :)

    My deal: I just got these Born boots from Sundance — originally $295, marked down to $199.98. BUT! The day I saw them, they were running another sale, so my price? $79.99 plus shipping. (They’ve since gone up again.)

    They arrived yesterday and I love them. They feel great:

    I’m now eyeing these Merrell boots, also on sale:

    In not as exciting news, I got a Fresh order from A-zon on Prime day … all kinds of things (including cheese) for $1 each. I stocked up.

    ETA: Forgot the ring I ordered from Etsy — 70% off. It’s supposed to arrive today:

    [Deleted photo, see below.]

    The reviews were very positive, so hopefully it’s of good quality. We’ll see. I’m a big fan of chunky jewelry and make a lot of my own necklaces, bracelets, and earrings, but not rings.

    Lovely ring, Jilly. Did the seller say what the stone is? Since you make your own jewelry, can you recommend a website or YouTube video I can use to learn how to string a natural-stone necklace (just one simple strand) that fell apart? Thanks!

    As for bargains, I found a couple of beautiful festive long skirts--one by Sofr Surroundings and one by BCBG MaxAzria--for my granddaughter to sell on eBay. Their price tags were the 99¢ color at the Salvation Army.

    User thanked Alisande
  • 11 months ago

    Thank you, Alisande!

    Yes, the stone is “Oyster Copper Turquoise”. It’s supposed be in the mail any minute, I hope it looks nice.

    I’m so sorry, all of my jewelry videos are on my old iPad, which I haven’t been able to access. If you Google relevant terms, lots should come up. It sounds like a very easy fix. Good luck! :)

    Thanks, Jilly. I can see how that beautiful stone got its name!

  • 11 months ago
    last modified: 11 months ago

    Well, not great news — the ring came and is a joke. I’ve never returned anything from Etsy, but am considering it. It’s very cheaply made and looks it, is much smaller than what the seller and reviewers show, and the colors of the stone don’t look anything like any of the photos (there is zero turquoise in mine). It looks like it came out of a gumball machine and will most certainly tarnish with even one day of wearing. I don’t know why the reviewers’ photos look so good; it’s like I got a completely different ring.

    I need to learn to make rings. :)

    @Jilly

    I think we both found deals on Born shoes. I found these for $55 at DSW.

    I also found Miz Mooz sandals from Nordstrom Rack for $55. Normally $200.

    Btw I have tried making wire rings many times. It is not hard. I want to learn to solder them.

    Friday, cool shoes and great deals!

    I really want to learn to solder, too. I’ve made rings without soldering, but I think they came out pretty terrible. :D

    What made them so terrible? I think I might buy a kit and look at a few YT videos. I really like the way my rings turn out but I think they would be more durable if they were soldered.

  • 11 months ago

    That's disappointing, Jilly! Maybe some of the reviews and photos were fakes. I sell casually on eBay, occasionally jewelry, and am aware of the large number of sellers from China and India (and probably other places) listing pieces of inferior quality. The listings usually have pretty pictures, but the item, when it arrives, bears little resemblance. I'm told some of these sellers have branched out to Etsy. If that's true, I guess Etsy isn't like it used to be.

    User thanked Alisande
  • 11 months ago

    Thank you, Alisande! Very good points. I’ve actually never bought a ring online before, and most likely won’t again (unless from a reputable and trusted fine jewelry source).

    I think you’re right about Etsy not being like it used to be.

    I Love love love Born shoes and boots! Awesome finds! Miss Mooz are gorgeous! Jilly those boots! WOWSER! They would get some stares if you were stomping around Aspen Colorado. Everyone would want them!

    alisande, a descent skirt for .99cents....geez~! Great buy.

    Sueb20, I like your quilt! I've also have been keeping an eye out for wall mirrors, like YOU purchased. I didn't do as well as you did...but here it is. $10. It's commercially made, but is solid wrought iron. It weights a ton!

    Jilly! Friday! I'm eager to see what you make.
