I had a swimming pool company add my raised pond to the backyard. They can do everything, digging, forming, plumbing, tiling, etc. It’s basically just a small swimming pool and because I have fish I have a filter which uses biological media, rather than a more typical swimming pool filter.

Thanks for replying! I would think a pool company too, but I had a pool contractor come look and he said he would have to tear up my patio tiles in order to put in a raised feature. Could he have been mistaken? I’ve enclosed pictures of the water feature. I currently have. I would like to fill it in and put a smaller, raised water feature in its place.

Most contractors believe they can't charge you enough to make it worth their while and risk. That's why you're having difficulty finding one.

Making it smaller is maybe the big problem. You would probably want to make use of the existing plumbing, so then filling in only part of the pond would be hard, or even filling in the entire thing and then extending the plumbing that’s already there to ground level for a new connection could be difficult.
One thing I will say is that in retrospect I wish we hadn’t raised our pond. I enjoy looking into it, and it’s hard to do that when the walls are about 16” high. I have to sit on the edge, and that’s not very comfortable. Is your pool deep enough for lotus or other plants? You could plant some and see how you like it over the course of the year, maybe you’ll actually end up wishing it was bigger! I know, I do!

That’s great feedback! Thanks for your advice. We do love it for 5 months of the year. It’s the winter months when it’s drained and seeing an empty hole.

Could you maybe get several LARGE pottery pots to place between your house and the existing water feature in the winter when it’s drained? You could plant with plants with winter interest, berries, gorgeous winter foliage, etc. and just move them out of the way when you fill the pond?
