Wife has asked me to help with wall color, HELP

last year

My wife has asked me to help pick the wall color. Leaving it blue apparently is not an option. The floors will be refinished to a lighter color and all the furniture will be replaced. She would like to mute the red tones of the logs if possible. Thanks!

    Thanks

What about SW 6175. But the 6178 might be a winner!

Find your rug and furniture first and then a wall color to go with it...so much easier than the other way around. The rug will determine your color scheme. Our cabin was built with blue accents too in the stained glass so we went with blue as our accent color in furnishings and it's very nice with the white walls and knotty pine.
    Here are your ideas.

Love the rug but more carmel leather might not be best choice. It will add more wood tone color. Might try a shade of green or darker brown in a textured performance fabric.

Here are some visuals. Paint the wood stove a dark color. Probably black. Add a few black accessories like a black metal and stone coffee table. Mix materials to help balance all the wood.

We actually rearranged the living room and put the dinning area near the kitchen and the living area near the wood stove. Energy is so much better.

That's good maybe you can show us a pic of that I'm going to be off to the doctor soon

I can see where switching the locations of your furniture will be great both aesthetically and functionally. Awesome!

I'll be sure to post some pics as we evolve and it stabilizes. Things are still moving and some furniture coming this week. I will be painting tonight. :) The whole house is getting repainted, floors refinished, gutting the basement and what ever else hits the list. I want to complain but if we don't get it done now it will get pushed off forever. The place will be banging when we are done. The cool thing is I get all the adirondack furniture to put in my man cave in the garage :)

For reference this is the outside.

On my project list is to put a shower door on. There was a curtain. I tried going curtainless however too much water gets out. Do you have any ideas for a shower door? Framed, frameless, other ideas?

I love the rock floor it feels so good on the pressure points. So far everyone has loved that bathroom. Since there's no ceiling ask the stream goes up and out and you get this fresh air pouring in. Like an outdoor shower.

Evidently the sink is coming out. Lol I need more me's

Your place is quite cool! Does that bathroom have a vent van

Thank you so much. Doesn't need a vent fan as the ceiling is open to the great room which ascends another 10 feet or so.

Thanks Trace. It's my dream home. Been saving a long time and needed to really save longer but when we saw it I just couldn't resist. Its my dream home and I couldn't have dreamed it up. When I saw it I knew it.

I'm painting the Clary Sage. I love it. Creamy not so much. There is some paint tension but I'm selling it well. :) Pray for me lol.

That is such a great story. I love that. Quite a unique home and property! You are a lucky Dude!!!

  • last year

@ Flo. Very lucky indeed. The gentleman that built it built it with lumber from the property. All done by hand. He was a very talented individual. They raised there family here in the Adirondacks off the grid in nature. At times I don't feel worth of the home but am doing my best to make it ours and maintain their spirit at the same time.

Great approach. Keep spirit of home while still putting some creature comforts into the home. See if you can get pictures of the building process. Maybe archive of newspapers at that time might have tracked the project. We bought a 1900 Victorian home when we got married and blended 2 families. We had a person come by with photo that were on glass of the house when it was new! Amazing what we discovered over the first few years. Wishing you the best!!

Take a look at this paint. It has a soft feeling and looks beautiful against any color. https://paintcolorproject.com/benjamin-moore-swiss-coffee/

@Yayagal Thanks! That might be a good choice for our "breakfast bar" room. We painted the living room (well one coat lol) Clary Sage and it looks magnificent. We have every room in this house to paint so its a target rich environment.

Current progress. Thanks for the support! Lighting not the best this time of the morning. I'll get a better picture later with my wife's phone. My camera is cracked. The sage looks so good in here. It's so calming and it feels like the walls extend into the forest. Looked even better in the dark. I pulled down the cabinets in the kitchen and to my dismay there is plywood behind them and not drywall. I'll also get better pictures of that later. THANKS!

Oh wow...gorgeous. You're right, it's like an extension of the forest. I'm so happy for you all. And your pup sure seems to like it! Thank you for sharing.

We have a new kitchen table coming that is rectangular with two benches. That will open room between the living area and dining. I'm going to cut a slab from a tree trunk and make a small game table with two small chairs. We currently have two large chairs there as a place holder and its a favorite place to sit as you can see Panther mountain out the window in the Kitchen.

That sofa looks great in the room. I envision a side table next to the big post for it.

The sofa looks like it could move back a few inches to align with the table and post. Help define that space.

@tracefloyd Thanks it's coming together. I like the living area near the wood stove. I have some touch up paint to do in here. I have to climb up to the top which has to be around 18 feet and for some reason I can't get motivated lol. Should finish up painting the guest room today. Then start on the the breakfast "bar". I have half the cabinets down in the kitchen. I'll post a pic soon.

You could put a shelf if you want if it's going to be useful and you could put slanted wood it would be unexpected there it would be also a nice design

  • last year

I continue the tile around the wall to the sink

  • last year

@happyleg. Thanks. Not sure what you mean though by slanted wood? If I had the tile I would have just taken it all the way up. Odds of me finding and matching that are slim at best. I figure this community will have some creative ideas. Slanted may be I just don't understand. I'm pretty handy but decorating is not my thing at all :)

  • last year

@happyleg The picture is misleading. That wall extends past the sink to the bathroom. Really need to know what to do with the area where the cabinets were.

  • last year

Slanted wood is stained and depending on the area it can be polyurethane too and it goes into an angle sometimes people make a design with it

  • last year

Here is a pic of a wood wall it don't have to be this exact design it could go up or down straight across or it can go in some other kind of design

  • last year

Now I get it. I like it. Not sure the wife will. She's already on wood overload but I'm going to present it. Thanks. I like your idea.

  • last year

I’d break up that tile and do what you had intended - repair, sand and paint that wall.

David, I like the idea of finishing that space above the tile/mosaic stones and then painting it whatever color you're going to use in the rest of the kitchen area. Build a shelf (the kind that slides onto protrusions from the wall instead of using brackets) that runs along the top of the stone/mosaic tiles. You could center a fern on the shelf or use it for whatever appeals to your family (especially your wife 😊). In the empty space between the right edge of the tiles and the corner, build a simple multiple shelf unit, like a narrow bookcase, to hold cookbooks, or mementos, maybe a small old clock, etc., and stain the wood to match the lower blonde cabinets. It will look like it was original to the kitchen design.

P.S. I love the rug and sofa your wife chose... 👍

I found these cute Sage green storage baskets for the new shelf over the kitchen tile. Store kitchen linens in them, paper plates, stuff like that...something lightweight overhead.

On Amazon. Set of 3. Other sizes available.
